Something may be wrong with your setup - for me, Eu Linux text apps run somewhat faster than under dos, using the same (multi-boot) pc. Assuming, of course, that your Lunux box isn't loaded down by numerous users or busy serving lots of web pages. Regards, Irv

The most stable and easiest to set up complete Linux distribution, in my opinion, is SuSE, followed by Mandrake (if you're using Pentiums) and then Slack. Didn't like Red Hat at all, and I've heard the same thing from others. Regards, Irv

I dont realy need anything done about the slow connection I dont plan on using the shell for anything other then a stable tcp/ip link to dalnet, keep my channels open a topic set. LAter i might do more. >From: Irv <irv.mullins at eudoramail.com> >Reply-To: EUforum at topica.com >To: EUforum at topica.com >Subject: Re: Eu, IRC, Linux, Windows >Date: Fri, 02 Feb 2001 19:44:55 -0800 > >At 10:39 AM 2/2/01 -0800, Grape Vine wrote: > >>I need to be a little clear on what i meant >>I have a remote linux shell that i use >>that with a slow data connection makes it very slow > >Don't know if anything can be done about the slow data connection. >I use 100Mbps fast ethernet cards in my home lan, so I don't really see any >difference between local and network transactions. > >>Any advise or help on using tcp/ip on linux? >>Ill have a local Linux setup again as soon as i >>get Debian, Open is bloatware like Windows and RH >>seams to be picky(prob just me) > >Not just you. Even if you are connected, as much as they are DDoS'd and split, there is no telling if you get chanserv, or for that matter, any other server on the net! Why don't you let chanserv keep the topic and not worry about stability, cause there is no stability on the net, it's an illusion. Or go shopping for a better shell host. On a good note, there is a conference in Oz on net connections, and a paper is being delivered by one of the originators of the XML "standard" (and author of several massive books) about something i pestered dalnet and sorcerynet on for years: an ircd that uses a hypercube topology and slave *servs in the ircd. Naturally, he will get the credit for continually bringing up the topic, not me. <sigh> Kat > >From: Irv <irv.mullins at eudoramail.com> > >Reply-To: EUforum at topica.com > >To: EUforum at topica.com > >Subject: Re: Eu, IRC, Linux, Windows > >Date: Fri, 02 Feb 2001 19:44:55 -0800 > > > >At 10:39 AM 2/2/01 -0800, Grape Vine wrote: > > > >>I need to be a little clear on what i meant > >>I have a remote linux shell that i use > >>that with a slow data connection makes it very slow > > > >Don't know if anything can be done about the slow data connection. > >I use 100Mbps fast ethernet cards in my home lan, so I don't really see any > >difference between local and network transactions. > > > >>Any advise or help on using tcp/ip on linux? > >>Ill have a local Linux setup again as soon as i > >>get Debian, Open is bloatware like Windows and RH > >>seams to be picky(prob just me) > > > >Not just you. Hehe, Ya everyone tells me dalnet is no place to use abot. I use dalnet all the time(if i am online i am on dallnet) So it will be where i test the bot I want to expland the bot to be a game bot and maybe a chatter bot. Yea some people hate that but Its mainly for ~me~ so it doesnt matter. About netsplits, thats easy to take care of, make the bot spaw a copy and hop on the other side of the split, with a diff nick. >From: Kat <gertie at PELL.NET> >Reply-To: EUforum at topica.com >To: EUforum at topica.com >Subject: Re: Eu, IRC, Linux, Windows >Date: Fri, 02 Feb 2001 20:23:12 -0800 > >On 2 Feb 2001, at 19:59, Grape Vine wrote: > > > I dont realy need anything done about the slow connection > > I dont plan on using the shell for anything other then > > a stable tcp/ip link to dalnet, keep my channels open > > a topic set. Nope, i found a way that is easy, Or at least it looks easy. When a netsplit does happen irc tells you where it happens, If my bot see's it (and only if it see's it) It hop's on the other side of the split This way the bot only need to worry about splits when it affects it Grape >From: Kat <gertie at PELL.NET> >Reply-To: EUforum at topica.com >To: EUforum at topica.com >Subject: Re: Eu, IRC, Linux, Windows >Date: Sat, 03 Feb 2001 10:15:35 -0800 > >On 3 Feb 2001, at 7:55, Grape Vine wrote: > > > Hehe, Ya everyone tells me dalnet is no > > place to use abot. I know, And that is the ~only~ time that my bot should care about a netsplit (less services are down when the bot loads) >From: Kat <gertie at PELL.NET> >Reply-To: EUforum at topica.com >To: EUforum at topica.com >Subject: Re: Eu, IRC, Linux, Windows >Date: Sat, 03 Feb 2001 16:02:23 -0800 > >On 3 Feb 2001, at 14:24, Grape Vine wrote: > > > > > > > Nope, i found a way that is easy, > > Or at least it looks easy.
