1. bad bug continued
Derek and Irv,
The following program locks up the modem answering software BEFORE I
ever press the button. Looks like it has nothing to do with the shell issue.
I'm at a total loss now...

I wonder if this program grabs the focus and won't turn it loose so the
modem answer software can initiate?? As soon as I kill this program the
modem software answers the phone.

There's nothing wrong with the program, and when I run it, I can still dial
out, get
my mail, etc,. while it's running. Please tell us what modem answering
software
you are using. Maybe someone else here has it also.

Irv and Derek,
I made a mistake and launched the program from mike-nz's editor. We know it
locks it up there. I launched it from a dos window and the modem did not
lock up even when I pushed the button to shellExecuteEx the next program. So
it would seem to me there is a problem with the system_exec() in EU which
the shellExecuteEx() does not exibit. This is what mike-nz uses. Remember
this problem with system_exec also locks up my whole computer when the
monitor goes to sleep. I'll try that with this short program which uses
shellExecuteEx...right chancey since it corrupts my desktop usually...
FYI the modem software is Quick Link Message Center III version 3.1 by Smith

I have a client who had a conflict with Eudora and Quick Link Message
Center 3, Version 3.2. The fax software is made by Smith Micro Center, Inc.
Seems to be a driver conflict. QLMC would freeze Eudora application.
Uninstall of QLMC solved problem, but now client does not have fax software.
Looking for solution or recommendations for fax software for Windows 98
that will not conflict with Eudora.

but quick link does not. EU locks up my quick link. So I don't know... I
give up..I for sure can't solve it. Using Matt's suggestion with
shellExecuteEx doesen't have the problem..@#$%/

OK, I've gotten lost. Are you saying that Matt's example causes no problems,
even
when you use it to execute another Eu program? But using the shellExecuteEx
call
in a Win32Lib program does cause the problem(s)?
What you really need to know, as I see it, is:"will your program, written in
Euphoria, using Win32Lib, lock up people's computers if they run it by
clicking on the icon."
Your clients won't be using Matt's editor, or anything like that, to run
your programs,
and you can easily avoid the use of system_exec() or shellExecuteEx in your
programs.

Yes, that is exactly what i'm saying. Using Matt's suggestion of
shellExecuteEx() does not lock up anything... but the system_exec() does
lock up quicklink and the monitor wakeup stuff.

Hi George,
You might remember that I mentioned I had the same monitor wakeup problem
with a Morfit program. The C version of that program had no problems but the
Eu port would prevent the computer from waking up.
I mention it again because my Eu program did not use system_exec(),
shellExecuteEx() or anything like that. However, I did use get_key() to do a
simple program exit. Your
comment regarding "losing focus" has got me wondering if that was my
problem. An open console screwing up the wakeup? As a matter of interest do
you have an open console anywhere? The Eu doc for system_exec() says
"system_exec() does not start a new DOS shell." so I suspect not but I
thought I would mention it.
