I've installed Euphoria on my Win2k box at work, and a whole lot of things are stuffing up. In EE:CS, clicking the mouse *may* cause the whole program to close, with whatever hasn't been saved going down with it. A lot of the DOS demo's don't work. You can't execute your program from within the editor. It's installed in c:\EUPHORIA, normal place. Any help? ===================================================== .______<-------------------\__ / _____<--------------------__|=== ||_ <-------------------/ \__| Mr Trick

it's at WORK. Changing OS's is not an option. Plus, I can't do the dual boot thing, cause all of the computers have spyware on them, so that when you log on to the network, it gives them your entire computer configuration, including the list of installed software... I was only able to install Euph, cause I needed it for a work purpose. :P But seriously, given that I am forced to use win2k, what options do I have? ===================================================== .______<-------------------\__ / _____<--------------------__|=== ||_ <-------------------/ \__| Mr Trick >From: Kat <gertie at PELL.NET> >Reply-To: EUforum at topica.com >To: EUforum <EUforum at topica.com> >Subject: Re: stupid win2k box >Date: Wed, 17 Jul 2002 01:32:34 -0500 > > >On 17 Jul 2002, at 13:02, mistertrik at hotmail.com wrote: > > > > > I've installed Euphoria on my Win2k box at work, and a whole lot of >things are > > stuffing up. > > > > In EE:CS, clicking the mouse *may* cause the whole program to close, >with > > whatever hasn't been saved going down with it. > > > > A lot of the DOS demo's don't work. > > > > You can't execute your program from within the editor. > > > > It's installed in c:\EUPHORIA, normal place. > > > > Any help? > >Yes, go back to win95 or win98, or up to ME or XP. I use win2k with eu with no problems. Try use the MEdit editor for windows. It's in the archives. Thank you, that's much better now. I think the mouse problems I had are due to an incompatibility between the mouse routines in EU, and NT-based systems. I had a similar problem when I made a DOS game with mouse control: It worked fine under win98, but on NT4, (and I presume NT5) clicking the mouse button would sometimes cause the interpreter to crash, particularly if you were winning... Rob, do you know why this happens? ===================================================== .______<-------------------\__ / _____<--------------------__|=== ||_ <-------------------/ \__| Mr Trick >From: rubis at fem.unicamp.br >Reply-To: EUforum at topica.com >To: EUforum <EUforum at topica.com> >Subject: Re: stupid win2k box >Date: Wed, 17 Jul 2002 11:20:25 -0300 > > >I use win2k with eu with no problems. No I don't. The mouse works for me on XP. I've been aware for a long time that the support for DOS on NT etc. is a bit flaky around the edges. Yup, Rob said: "I've been aware for a long time that the support for DOS on NT etc. is a bit flaky around the edges." I'm having troubles too with NT. What works fine on Win98, messes up a lot on NT, in fact NT's reaction of choice to what looks like harmless code is to freeze up. I can sometimes get out with the three-fingered salute, but often not. Reboot. And I'm not using mouse routines. Tracking down the problems is hard or impossible so far. Sometimes time() used for pauses seems to be the culprit, but when I test time() separately from various programs, it works. ??? I am doing just DOS stuff with ee.exe... Of course all this is professional development. Crashingly yours, --Quark

WinNT variants (NT4, 2000 and XP) don't fully support the Long Filename libraries and system calls that EE:CS uses to deal with the filesystem. Not something that's easily fixed. I did try to get EE:CS working with the Windows interpreter (exw) but there are too many dos_interrupt()s and lots of custom code designed specifically for the DOS platform. Basically, I've coded it into a corner. If I was going to fix it, I'd be taking a look at the Linux port of EE to see if I can steal^H^H^H^H^H borrow the code that makes it work outside DOS. ;) Don't hold your breath though... I've heard good things about both Judith's IDE and the Crimson Editor - maybe you could take a look at those? Carl

Last I looked, it should work. I disabled the mouse handling, because in the initial Linux release, the mouse would select text, even if you didn't want it to. This was irritating, to say the least. But if the mouse is better behaved these days, it could go back in. I might take a look at it some time myself - I run Linux on my home machine as my primary OS, and I really miss the DOS editor. It wasn't that hard to rip out the non-portable code. A lot of it was little cleanups because graphics characters weren't supported in Linux. -- David Cuny
