If you really are going to let the kids play on it, like you said on IRC, I recommend you get an NVIDIA graphics card and then install NVIDIA's drivers. They're hardware-accelerated and are great even with my fairly old TNT2. As for distributions, I know a few people here use Mandrake. >:) > >-ck > >P.S. Let me rephrase... I have tried recently this distros: Mandrake 9 Red Hat 8 Peanutlinux Knoppix (runs on cd and ramdisk) My opinion: Knoppix it's nice to test the compatibility of a computer with linux, without changing any byte in the hd. You can in 5 minutes set up a apache web server in a computer, for example. Mandrake - easy to use, easy to install, automount your partitions to acess window files. Few programas. Smaller then Red HAT. RED HAT - I have some problems with boot after instalation but after some reinstalations (3 !) I could solve them. Has more programs than mandrake, but I have a lot of problems instaling new packages.... The EE editor, for example, did not work. Pealinux - I cannot enter in X after installation. Could only work in text mode. Very small. Basic iso 300mb. Rubens At 02:28 21/12/2002, you wrote: >and I'm going to put a Linux distro on it... So... If its not too late, I would suggest that you get an IBM machine with RedHat linux pre-installed. IBM and RedHat are now partners and, you know that everyone bases and looks out for changes that BIG BLUE makes. If you want compatability USE IBM and RedHat... I would also shoot for a totally upgradable IBM machine. My 0.02 Xanax

Well, you wont get a new IBM cheap... Ive built 100's of machines for people (in the past) and you really cant beat an IBM...instead of the hasle of going back to my supplier with bad parts that made me look foolish (not to mention loose business) I now only recommend IBM because you know they'll always be an IBM for support. +plus you will be hard to find any other company to support their machines like IBM will.

Thats why they have IBM business partners... Local shops with IBM trained techs to offer not only support but hard/soft wares managment. Xanax ----- Original Message ----- From: "C. K. You are both somewhat correct. Darwin, the base system of OS X, is comprised of a custom FreeBSD 4.4 kernel running on top of a Mach 3 microkernel. Aqua, OS X's GUI, runs on top. Darwin itself is available for x86 class machines, so I imagine a port of Euphoria to Darwin would not be to difficult. I have not seen the source, so I don't know what would be involved in an attempt to port to the PPC Darwin.
