1. ED.EX

I love ED.EX

It is set up as the default text editor on my system.
It reads ANYTHING.

If you learn the few simple commands it is extremely
quick to use, especially for cut/copy and paste whilst
programming.

Anybody who is seriously put off by a text screen
should go and get a copy of VB.

If it's not to your individual taste, then use something
else, but it's a great little editor make no mistake.

Hardly qualifies you as an expert on the subject smile

I agree mainly. But one thing disturbs me: if you run with the cursor
over the right (or left) border, the whole screen content jumps in steps
of 4 characters. Scrolling would be much better, it doesn't disturb the
eyes so much.

Have a nice day, Rolf

No. But it does qualify me as a former beginner attempting to learn and make
use of the language. Remember the thing about first impressions ...

4. Re: ED.EX

I love ed.ex too - but I find myself agreeing with
Travis as well.

Most users are now addicted to fondling a mouse. The
lean simplicity and speed of ed.ex is lost on most new
user's who are reluctant to read or unable to access
the brief instructions to learn how to run the
program.

It would behoove RDS commercially to amend ed.ex - at
leas adding cross platform mouse support so user's can
point and click their way to whatever they need.

Here again is my ed.ex wish list:

1. Cross platform mouse support.
2. A full screen hot key toggle:
  - ed.ex's horizontally split windows is great, but
viewing a current file full screen without having
to close all the other files would be great!
3. Easy user editable macros
4. Ability to add color syntax support for 3rd party
   libraries.

It is sad that the current ed.ex is so under
appreciated. But it is a sign of the times. We are
stuck with GUI's.

No problem.
Find constant SHIFT in ed.ex file and change this SHIFT from 4 to 1.

Have a much better ed.ex editing Rolf. :-{)

I didn't know about this constant. It's easy to change.

Use EECS. It has most of your wishes and it's great DOS editor, but Windows
editor would be better. One another thing that really bothers me with ed.ex
is that you can't select text with it! (to delete, cut or copy it).

When I'm running EECS (fullscreen) and I'm doing something else in Windows
computer works very slow. This is probably common to all DOS programs. This
is another reason why editor should be Windows editor.

8. Re: ED.EX

Perhaps I didn't state my position very well. I agree
with Graeme in that I love ed.ex -

By the way, I am running Linux - ee.exu, the ee.ex
port to Linux does not have mouse support.

Thanks for the suggestion though :)
