Look in the Euphoria Archives for Mike Carrolls editor. That link will also take you to MEdit. Happy Hunting, Travis Beaty Claude, Texas.

You can use *any* text editor, try your favorite one: in windoze, try Notepad, Notetab, Word, Write, Textpad, EditorPro, etc,, anything you want to use is fine, as long as it does what you want it to do. You can even use the editor or ide from another programming language. I use TextPad from www.textpad.com . Ugh! I'm swamped in work:( And besides that, a lot of familly and social life is kinda....blowing up in my face. My girl left me and then came back to leave me again *2, my father is in a coma, I can't get a job and I have the fever. To top that, Eu is dead. Well, ok, I checked it's pulse and it's like 0,5 BPM. My projects go slow, much thanks to Eu. I tried to write my own damned EC.LIB library, but without any solid info on the runtime routines, it would take ages to do it, and Rob ain't letting anything lose, nor is he doing anything about it himself. Seriously, who gets it into his mind to write a translator for his not-so-hot programming language, and requires linking to a precompiled, platform and compiler dependand lib? No one, that's just crazy. Only good for those that fear people seeing their code (is it *that* bad?). And we have to suffer from it. Yeah yeah, I know, I'm pushing Rob again, bt that's my job, remember? I'm not gonna focus on the things about Eu that are good, I will focus on the things that are bad instead. So they might get fixed. If Beta-2 don't have any of the following; - DLL compilation - Mapping between existing C code - LIB compilation - portable source to runtime library - Severely increased speed Then don't even bother updating it. I hate seeing my compiled programs run slower than my interpreted ones. What's the point of having a translator, realy? If programs run slower or just as fast, and don't use any of C's features (such as DLLs, Libs, portability, etc.)? Waste of code if you ask me, am I right? We, well, atleast I, want some improvements, in speed and functionality, even if it requires a total re-write, NOW! ;) Mike The Spike PS. Translator optimisation tip: The translator can check how many times a variable is used, and when it isn't used any longer, before translating to C, so that the need for Ref/DeRef is oblivished. When the var isn't used anymore, and you know it, free() it once, and voila! You have collected some extra garbage! So this code: integer a a = 10 a = 50 puts("YEAH!!") becomes: int *a; a = (int*)malloc(sizeof(int)); a = 10; a = 50 free(a); puts("YEAH!!")

Hi. The best way to use Euphoria is to set up a proper work environment from the outset. 1. Get yourself a decent editor. If you are using Windows then "MEdit" (free) is good. If you go for MEdit there are two versions from memory. One (both?) works "straight out of the box" with Euphoria. MEdit has some small bugs but you can work around them. It also has syntax highlighting already set up for Eu. Another good editor is "Textpad" (shareware). It takes more to set up for Eu than MEdit but is an excellent editor. Both of the editors above allow you to run your code direct from the editor...... no need to resort to the DOS prompt! This in my opinion is a MUST. Textpad can also be set-up to compile and make your programs using the new translator without having to leave the editor....very handy. 2. If you are running under Windows, Then get yourself one of the excellent "help" versions of the Euphoria documentation. I use the (slightly outdated) one by Fabio Ramirez. There is a more up-to-date one by Adam Weedon. With the exception of Textpad, you can get these items via www.rapideuphoria.com Get Textpad at www.textpad.com Once you have a decent workspace, you'll learn fast. Have Fun. Pay special attention to sequences i.e: 1. how to form them 2. how to maintain them (append, prepend) 3. how to slice them 4. the difference between string and integer Sequences to me are the heart of Euphoria and make programming much simpler than anyother language. Get the Complete Edition from Robert and Junko Traceing and Profileing your code makes the learning curve straighten-out *ALOT*. BE PATIENT, I too was in your shoes and know first hand what a struggle programming can be. Take your time and learn from others who have been around awhile. aka Jiri Babor, Matt Lewis, Derek Parnell Gabriel Boehme, Graeme Burke, Wolfgang Fritz, Kat etc..etc ( If I left you out I'm sorry.) These people are true code guru's and have helped me tremendously. Most of the afore mentioned people have code that can be D/Led from the RDS Euphoria Web-Site. Study the code and most of all, HAVE FUN. I've been working with Rob Kraybill on the bug he found in IDE. What is happening is all system resources on my computer get used up when there are a lot of controls in IDE. This happens even right after a reboot. Can anyone please tell me what kinds of things to look for? Thanks, Judith

I don't know windoze programming, but i have found the little info boxes in Taskinfo2000 to be useful in tracking down resource hogs. For instance, i wrote some mirc code that would gradually do as you describe, consume all the resources, and Taskinfo was what told me what app was using what resources. Untill i recoded it, i simply shut down the app once a day and restarted it, and this helped to a degree, altho this would be unacceptable in the IDE. Look at http://www.iarsn.com/download.html#TaskInfo to get info and download it. I wish we could get this info with an Eu app, to provide preemptive warnings about resource useage and such. Kat

Hello Judith, I dont use win32lib a whole lot anymore but I can give you an idea what you might look for..... take this example for instance if iMsg = WM_CREATE then pen1 = c_func(xCreatePen,{PS_SOLID, 1, 16777215}) elsif iMsg = WM_PAINT then junk = c_func(xSelectObject,{hdc, pen1}) If I were to xCreatePen when I had a Paint event instead of xSelectObject I would eat up all of my resources very quickly..... Long story short: Looking for Pens or Images that are created when an onPaint event occurs would be my first thought..... Hi Euman, I'm a beginner. I want to place a selection of over 40 bitmaps on the screen in a sort of spreadsheet. I've looked at some other programs which work on the same principle (BlackJack for example) and they all use "chain images". To me it seems that in this way more coding is involved. What's the advantage of a chain image except of having one image instead of 40 images / files and less disk-reading? Bye, Jasper. euman@bellsout h.net To: EUforum <EUforum at topica.com> cc: 04-10-2001 Subject: Re: HELP! 00:04 Please respond to EUforum Rob Kraybill says he's creating 1000 small Toggle Pictures I would suggest a chain image 1 bitmap many images -- Look at the attaches .jpg for an idea....what Im talking about.. Hello Jasper, In the example attachment I sent earlier (drvfold.jpg) there are 9 images each of the 9 images are 16x16 pixels (height, width) If we only had to code one line to bring in this one file we are at an advantage already. To seperate the images we have several options. First, MS has made it easy for us to use these by utilizing ImageList hImageList = c_func(xImageList_Create,{16,16,ILC_COLOR16,2,10}) hBitmap = LoadImage("drvfold.bmp", IMAGE_BITMAP) junk = c_func(xImageList_Add,{hImageList,hBitmap,NULL}) c_proc(xDeleteObject, {hBitmap}) Note: I utilized a bitmap in the code. TreeView and ListView use Imagelist as a standard in most apps. The second ofcourse would be to create your own methods. Im pretty sure someone already has an example on the Eu-contrib page. All-in-all, the advantages would be less code, typeing, app size, number of files to carry around and several others Im sure that dont come to mind right off.... Hope this helps!
