"Bite me." is a sort of challege. So it becomes "I dare you to bite me.",
which in turn is a version of "I challege you to attack me." which in old
times, is related to honor. Hence, refusing the challege YOU give dishonors
THEM (especially since in these modern times, no one would accept and hence
be dishonored). Old-fashioned, but then again the use of curse/swear words
as an insult is also as old-fashioned.
Of course, the above is entirely a guess. I expect to be disproved rather
soon. :D
