So it becomes "I dare you to bite me.", which in turn is a version of "I challege you to attack me." which in old times, is related to honor. Hence, refusing the challege YOU give dishonors THEM (especially since in these modern times, no one would accept and hence be dishonored). Old-fashioned, but then again the use of curse/swear words as an insult is also as old-fashioned. Of course, the above is entirely a guess. I expect to be disproved rather soon. :D jbrown -- /"\ ASCII ribbon | http://www.geocities.com/jbrown1050/ \ / campain against | Linux User:190064 X HTML in e-mail and | Linux Machine:84163 /*\ news, and unneeded MIME | http://verify.stanford.edu/evote.html

A note: Please remember to put the [OT] where it belongs. No, the honor is on Rob accepting. Obviously, if you challege a samuari on his honor to attack and kill you, and he accepts, thats not desireable to you (unless you fight back and win). What is desireable to you is to have the samuari dishonored by refusing your challege. Basicly you want him to look bad. Or so it would be in olden times. Now, it probably applies not so much ... I can't speak for Lucius directly, but the modern teenager (yes I know Lucius is long past his teen years ... hence I don't speak for him) who says "bite me" is just using an olden expression to express his/her disrespect and resentment. Or so I guess. > And how is this > related to programming? Other than the initial words typed by Lucius to express himself publicly to Robert Craig about his opinion of Euphoria namespaces, this is not in any way related to programming.
