dang it, David, that was going to be my suggestion. i just downloaded 
the latest Knoppix v3.2 (694MB, so it takes a 700MB CD burner) and it is 
a sweet distro. it runs without touching my Win2k NTFS OS because it 
boots from the CD and the hard disk is never mounted except as read 
only. KDE, Gnome, tons of apps, lots of fun, and very good looking. it 
has converted more than a few people to Linux...
