have you tried to search the archives at the RDS site...? i've found
i've gotten excellent results, although sometimes the posters need to be
more 'specific' with their subject lines.

plus, sometimes it's worth it to just download apps under a certain
category and see what they do. again, i've learned a lot that way.

try http://www.anagramgenius.com/server.html

you could try "topica" or "topica sucks" or "Euphoria rules"...

Agreed. The RDS search is much better and I use nothing else. However,
even though it usually turns up a useful post, it then has no easy means
of finding if there were other responses to the same post. You either
have to scroll thru pages of unrelated stuff to find the gems, or have
to resort to more searches around that date to find if there was
anything else posted. Catering for advanced search criteria would help
as well.

Unfortunately, the forum only sends a notification, not the actual
   posted message.

This is very tricky, as the e-mail needs to have certain
information that the forum-software can use to determine the
correct area to post the message to.

I think it might not be to late to re-assess the choice of forum
software. Tmo the forum you are currently using is one of the
least functional ones. It's predesessor YABB has much more to
offer already (I'm running a YABB board myself) but there are
   even better ones like Ikonboard.
   http://www.yabbforum.org
   http://www.ikonboard.com

I'm also running a Discus based forum. Discus is the only forum
software I've seen so far that can handle posting through e-mail,
but as I said it's tricky to set up. It also has the best features
to track new postings combined with an incredible amount of user
specific setting for what you want to track. You can even restrict
it's search function to specific areas of interest.
   http://www.discusware.com

Yet another option to think about is to use a WikiWiki web instead
of a forum. It is the upcoming technology for web collaboration.
If you are aiming at accumulating knowledge in a searchable way
then this is the best way to do it tmo.
A very functional wiki is Twiki. It also has e-mail integration.

Yep, and many forums have a "mailing list" integrated to their
message system.... but wait, there's more (always wanted to say
that <grin>)... when you use a forum as a mailing list you can
actually subscribe to separate discussions instead of getting
ALL the messages including the ones you don't want.

Now **THAT** is a great invention blink

> Agreed. What's it's name, and where can we find it?

The best one I know (and I'm running one myself) that you can
actually post to through e-mail is Discus.
    http://www.discusware.com

One example you can do with it: I'm running it for a community
of musicians that use a certain studio software. There was a
mailinglist at Yahoo groups but people where asking for a forum.
As the developer of the software at that time did not want to
set up a forum, I did it myself. Most of the community moved
over to my forum (close to a thousand users now) but a lot of
people liked the mailing list as well.
On my forum we have a few announcement areas where stuff is posted
that is of interest to ALL users. So I did set up a dumy-user on
my forum that corresponds with a dummy account on Yahoo groups.
I then subscribed the dummy account to the announcement areas for
receiving messages through e-mail. Now when an announcement is
posted on the forum, it is automatically send to the Yahoo mailing
    list as an e-mail message.

Something like that could be done here as well tmo smile

http://h2osoft.homeip.net

will still continue to better itself.

Things Im working on:
1) smaller code fragments for dialup users.
2) email watched topic replies (with ability to stop watching threads)
3) integrated spam control (Moderated forum)
(I wont allow Off-topic discussion in a forum topic, I'll delete it
This what you wrote and Im writing would be removed and considered
off-topic. Off-Topic discussion can occur on the forum but look at # 5
      below.)
4) No Virus spreading
5) You will be able to switch off-on Forum topics.
(dont want to see Linux as a Forum topic, have it removed with one click
later you decide you want in on the linux discussion enable it with one
      click.)
6) The forum is brought to you Free of charge with no advertising
(simply because Ive loved Euphoria, programming in it (I think) 6+ years)
7) Topica users have requested a better alternative.
(my forum may not be now at this second PERFECT but those kind people
who have asked questions responded and with feed back are going
to get what they want. One way or another)

You see, Ive put more than just a small amount of time into this.
Ive actually thought about it and the other thing is, Im capable of
making it happen....(although Im no magician) DEPF will be the
utlimate choice for many Euphoria customers.

This works with the freeware version. The pro version has options
to have pasword protected areas and a subscription queue as far
as I can remember. Alsmost everything else is included in the free
    version as well.
