directed at list admin, RDS; I am wondering what the possibilities of getting a virus scanned copy of archive donated code on an as donated basis? much like a 'spam' code list. when a new piece is put on the archives, registered users would receive a scanned copy. I am getting there, too much OT lately. this is asked as a suggestion, there is a lot of code I would like to get hold of as it comes out in the archives (virus free). byE Mike (not a leech) Swayze mswayze at truswood.com kswayze at bellsouth.net

If I understand you correctly, you'd like RDS to set up a distribution-only mailing list for registered users, where RDS would post all new user contributions after virus scanning them. That's an interesting possibility, but I think RDS would have to make money from it somehow, either through mailing list advertising or an extra charge when you register. Updating the Web site with new contributions already takes more time than it might appear. Time that could be spent on new development. People often leave a critical file out of their .zip, they don't document how to run the program, the program crashes, I have to notify the author etc. All the .zips on the Web page are stored in a directory on a hard disk. That hard disk is scanned periodically for viruses. Viruses are not too likely since most contributions are in source form, and most are from people that I know. I have no idea how your web site is organised but maybe one or preferrably a few users can get together and look after the recent user contributions / archive totally. Preferably still hosted at www.RapidEuphoria.com but if that isn't possible it could be at another site with a link from the RDS page. Just an idea. Have put anymore thought into other than what I have mentioned. Ray Smith.

Someone could easily manage a subscription service like that... I suggest www.EuphoriaFiles.com or something like that. It would be extremely easy to run as a Lotus Notes db or something. Or maybe Kat (or others) would like to make some income by managing a site like that... "This Site Run with EUPHORIA" would be nice... If you guys want me to snag www.EuphoriaFiles.com and host it as a Lotus Notes database, send your $12 annual subscription fee to... <\< _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Why Lotus Notes and not the Eu database? >Or maybe Kat (or > others) would like to make some income by managing a site like that... "This > Site Run with EUPHORIA" would be nice... Sorry, i just gave up on things like that, and gave away the password on a domain, i had set it up for others to use, and no one has. But they do still continue to complain about how poor they are, or that they have no online "presence" that isn't spammed with ads. I was even going to put it on a shared dual T1 LAN at the isp at $135 a month, but since the people i was trying to help backed out, i spent the money on things *i* need, like walls for the house. Color me real bitter atm. Kat

oh well, doesn't sound too practical or economical to do. next question, about how large (?MB) are the 'complete' archives? Mike Swayze writes: > next question, about how large (?MB) are the 'complete' archives? Very roughly, I'd say 50Mb. Most .zips are on RapidEuphoria.com. (30Mb) Some are still on AOL. (8Mb) Some are links to other people's sites. Someone was going to make a CD. I don't know what happened to him. Logically I should make a CD and ship it, since I've got everything on a hard disk. The trouble is I'd have to charge a fair bit for my time. I've found it's very time consuming to make disks, print instructions, write an invoice, print address labels, take packages to the post office, line up, pay the shipping cost etc. I'd rather be programming. Is it possible to allow anonymous FTP access to the archives? This wouldn't allow DL'ing of ALL the files, but most.. With FTP,peeps could mass DL the archive, to the extent of whatever is contained with the RDS site itself anyways. Don't know if this IS in fact possible or not, but it's just a thought. Surely it wouldn't be a perfect solution.. but better than DL'ing ALL files individually.. One other thought.. What about setting up some sort of paid program where customers could recieve a copy of any new contributions, sent directly to them via email? This would reduce the need for updated CDs, if you were to ever consider doing such a thing.. If anything, peeps could manage on their own to get the archived files. Any new files would be automatically sent to them.. Chris

You could add a small markup for your time collecting and categorizing the files.
