1. Ye greate sprite editor

Hi all,

I'm busy these days, so I almost have no time for reading and sending mails
(because I'm not near my computer) but I occasionally have time to code. I'm
doing some improvements on my sprite editor, and wondered if you had any
wishes for features to include. The currently new noteworthy stuff is:

* Help/menu screen
* An area fill in edit mode
* A new rotate possibility: better result, much slower

I'll try to implement any suggestions into the new version.

1. How about a total GUI with stuff like a movable/minamizable
toolbar instead of just key commands.
2. Maybe a scrollbar for the overview mode if there are too
many sprites to show on screen.
3. Higher resolution?

As for the three that you already have above they all would be very good
improvements (especially "fill")

Lewis Townsend

Really simple suggestion:

Online help

Really easy to do, just loadup the help file and scroll through it with
the arrow keys. (The results are dynamic, if the readme file is updated,
you'll notice it next time help is called up.)

(If you have problems, just look at some code from ED or something... Or
ask me and I'll figure out a way to do it. I can't see any problems that
you would run into, though.)

I will think about it, a toolbar in the edit mode should not be too
difficult; could be turned on/off with a hotkey or a permanent button. A
toolbar in overview mode would mean that I have to add mouse support to that
part of the program, something that I will not do, at least not right now.

The other thing that keeps me from adding to much GUI stuff to the program,
is that hotkeys appeal more to me than menus and buttons, because hotkeys
are faster when you learn them. With the new simple menu I've made, it
should be easy to learn them. It is opened with Escape, and the syntax is
like this:

[...]
 MARK ALL <F2>
 FLIP IMAGE <F>
>RESCALE IMAGE <S>
 MOUNT/CROP IMAGE <SHIFT+S>
[...]

Now, Robert, will this be sufficient for help, or should I add a possibility
to read the text file?

For a scrollbar to be useful, I would have to add mouse support. Read answer
one.

>3. Higher resolution?

The way I see it, I have two possibilities. Use one of the SVGA modes or use
ModeX. I am more interested in the last possibility, because:
    1. SVGA modes are slow
    2. ModeX has a lot of cool features
The bad stuff is:
    1. I have not gotten familiar with ModeX
    2. I think the allowed screen modes vary great between graphic cards.
    3. ModeX does not support mouse at this time (I think)

I've made the new rotate routine faster, which should be a good thing.

Other opinions/suggestions?

As long as you don't go VESA modes (256x300, weird, funky stuph) you
should be fine.

Probably not a possibility, but it may work, is a saved file in DHTML.
(hehe, have a little man dancing before my page is open... hehe)
