So John DeHope decided it's about the right time to take another swipe
at me...

First of all he talks about his own clever font routines. He will not
bother sharing them with us, but he is willing to dispense a few
pearls of wisdom:

>First off you need a generic blitting procedure, which is basically a
>wrapper for EMemCopy. It needs to be able to blit part or all of a
>bitmap onto another bitmap. Not too difficult.

Not too difficult for you, John. But I can tell now we are all eagerly
awaiting your first contribution! (I hope you do not want me to count
your rehash of Refman.doc in MS Word format, or do you?)

John goes on to give us a bit more insight into his way of thinking, and
then he delivers his final blow:

>Simple, right? I hope this offers a clear alternative to using the pixel
>routine. I think RDS included it for the sake of being complete, but it
>has *no* place in any graphics library that even wants to dream of
>speed.

Clear and simple, John. Thanks a lot. jiri

Bit crude, Jiri.

But John, consider that 1) the font needs to be able to get displayed on
top of other graphics, 2) there are more video modes than MCGA 3) that we
dont want all fonts to be of the same size 4) we want to add special effect
such as underlining, shadow 5) we want to use more than just one color.
Using a fixed bitmap, we need a different font for every color, for every
style, every size, and it would still only work in MCGA.
Considering all that, I think Jiri's font package is wonderfull tool.

Not crude at all. A bit nasty, measured and very appropriate are the words you
are
looking for, Ralf. Thanks. jiri
