Here's LGP Games Official Press Release: ********************************************************************* Lord Generic Productions 1218 Karen Ave Santa Ana, Ca 92704 lgp at exo.com http://www.aait.com/LPGGames Lord Generic Productions is pleased to announce the release of a brand new line of 'Retro-Arcade Classic' shareware games that feature fast action gameplay and great graphics and sound effects. "Our Goal is to breathe new life into the classic arcade games of the past, and blast them into the 90's and beyond" says company President, Michael Packard. "We want everyone to think of LGP Games first when they are looking to play a new 'classic'. In the next year, LGP Games is committed to release at least 10 'Retro-Arcade Classics' to our diehard fans." Mr. Packard goes on to say, "We want to revive the spirit of the games we grew up with and springboard them to another level, rather than just cloning the original games. All our games are "inspired" by the the classics, but that's not enough. Our goal is to take the games beyond what they were, to do things game programmers couldn't do in 1978. All of our games are NEW classics, we take the best of what was cool THEN and add new twists to make them cool NOW. Instead of rehashing the way games were back then, we create our games the way we always wanted them to be." "Too often I've seen tired, rushed remakes with cheesy graphics and sound bites pulled from tv shows. It doesn't work. That is a disservice to the audience, and perpetuates the stereotype that shareware is cheesy and isn't as good as something you buy in a store. Our standards are higher. Our respect for our audience is higher." "We've been producing digital images for the commercial games for 13 years now, and we want to raise the standard for shareware. All of our games have fully animated, rendered 3D characters, beautiful backgrounds, original music and sound effects." Two titles have already been released and are available for download and trial as shareware: OidZone (http://www.aait.com/LGPGames/OidZone) Your job is to clear the OidZone of Asteroids and other hazardous objects. You have a fast ship and a pulse-cannon to blast away at anything in your path. BEWARE: As an incentive to clear the oidzone quickly, your bosses will periodically send a homing swarm mine at you. These break into many tiny mines that try to swarm all around you, and will hunt you down until you destroy them. Keep your finger on the hyperspace key for a fast getaway! Star Thief (http://www.aait.com/LGPGames/StarThief) features You did such a great job clearing the OidZone that your boss has promoted you to night watchman over a collection of StarStuff. Every once in awhile a couple of StarThieves will rush in and each will try and take a container of StarStuff. If they take all six containers, you are unemployed. To fight the StarThieves, you have a fast, maneouverable ship with an ion cannon to blast them with. If you get in a jam and can't shoot your way out, your ship can make a hyperspace jump to another random location in the playfield. The StarThieves don't do their job quietly, they taunt you as they get away with your stuff. "We got one!", "We got ANOTHER one!", "That was EASY!", "Are you even trying?" ... If you shoot them you may hear them say "Don't shoot! We're your friends!" or "Ouch! That hurts!" . Three new releases are just about ready for debut: Invaders: Venusians have attacked the Earth! Only you can stop them! Expected Release Date: 4/13/97 SolarQuest: Protect your sun from the evil StarKillers! Expected Release Date: 4/25/97 StarRanger: Protect your frontier from enemy fighters! Expected Release Date: 5/15/97 These games are written in Euphoria - a simple, powerful new programming language. Euphoria runs in 32-bit protected mode to give you access to all of your machine's memory. Check out the Official Euphoria Programming Page on the World Wide Web at: Be sure to visit the Lord Generic Productions Games WWW web site at http://www.aait.com/LPGGames and download our "Retro-Arcade Classics" ************************************************************ Michael Packard Lord Generic Productions lgp at exo.com http://exo.com/~lgp A Crash Course in Game Design and Production http://exo.com/~lgp/euphoria

Dear Michael, I think i gonna speak in the name of several users of the listserver. I really respect you as an Euphoria programmer, your active participation in the listserver has, in one or another way, helped many people... BUT i think this listserver isn't about BUSINNES! So if you intend to promote your PERSONAL bussiness, you are in the WRONG place. I don't wanna be rought with you, but what you do isn't right, or even more, ETHIC (hope i spell it right). I can't talk about the past, but I remember seen, some time ago, a BIG discussion about a book of yours. Please dont use this tribune as a market place... we are subscribed here to LEARN about others expirience NOT to buy someone elses game. On Fri, 11 Apr 1997, Architek wrote a bunch of flaming stuff at me: I prefaced the message "In case anyone is interested:" If you ain't, please disregard. The purpose of the message on here was to let Euphoria people that Euphoria people are taking the language into the shareware mainstream. The most important part of the Press Release, as far as this listserver is concerned, and which it looks like you missed completely, was the paragraph about EUPHORIA, and the reference to the Offical Euphoria Page (which I need to update to the new URL, D'OH!). When the Press Release goes out to the Press, the WEB, and the rest of the world next week, it will point other people to EUPHORIA. I expect it to genereate some serious interest in what we do HERE, and I figured some of the people on here would be interested in that. Appearently you AREN'T. Don't shoot, we're your friends... It makes sense to me try and promote Euphoria as a good development platform, while trying to make a buck with the stuff I'm doing with it. I'm enthusiastic about letting people know what can be done with the Language. I disagree with your interpretation of what this listserv is about. The listserv is about Euphoria. I do not feel the advertising of his products in any way is ethically wrong. In fact, promotion of his products is a good thing because it helps promote Euphoria as a legitmate software language and not a shareware toy. When people check out his advertised products and see the amazing work he has done, it makes people go, "Wow, if I can do that with Euphoria, then I think I'll purchase the Complete Editiion!!!!". Quite frankly, as long as it helps stoke Euphoria's survivability in the future, I am in full support of Michael's ads...if you do not want to read them, simply delete or filter. And before anyone calls me a corporate flunky, please understand that I wrote "A Beginner's Guide To Euphoria" as freeware and receive no funding for the costs it takes to support both the tutorial and the web site (costs of which can exceed $50 a month at times). All of this comes out of my salary from my real job. Hope this clears the air enough so we can move on to talking about Euphoria and not flaming each other. Thank you for your time David Gay http://www.interlog.com/~moggie/Euphoria "A Beginner's Guide To Euphoria"

WHOA dan, taking nothing away from anyone here, but michael is doing as much (if not more) as anyone here to promote Euphoria. And if he were being blatantly commerical you may have some justification for your complaint, but in my opionion, he has been as low key as is possible for a marketting programmer (my term, not in websters! ;^) i for one, am not a gamer, but have been very intreged with euphoria and where it is going. michael's so called commericalism is an indication of what people are doing with it, and i want to know that as well.. i have no objection to his 'press release', and i think that all 'euphorians' should applaud his efforts, as he is also notifing the rest of the world of the benefits of Euphoria. if euphoria does not gain broader support than this little group, it will surely die, and we will be left wanting... jmho, Lucien T. Michael, my intention was not to offend you. As i said, you are one of the best guys in this listserver. Maybe I misunderstood your intention... I read your mail as "Euphorians, I'm selling games!".. and that is out of range in THIS listserver. If your intention was to, proudly, tell us all work you do to promote Euphoria.. I sincerly apologize. I understand that you make a living of this. Never mean that should not use Euphoria commercially (never, never, never). All I want to say is that this listserver shouldn't become a comercial place, there are other places where to sell our stuff. Belive me I'm sorry about the error, > Don't shoot, we're your friends... and offcourse we are friends.
