Downloaded the Portals Development System (macro assembler).
Anyone know how to make this thing run? It sure seems awfully buggy. I
see that it has (or had) an strong EU connection, especially with the .f
fonts and several other sample programs. I would really appreciate some
info such as: is this simply a dead horse, can it even be used, why don't
the .hlp files work, or what? What happened to the project?

Assuming my memory isn't playing tricks on me, and I'm recalling the right
program...
I don't recall seeing the author appear in this group.
When the code first showed up, I downloaded it and was less then impressed.
It didn't take long to write a clone, but for once better judgement
prevailed and I never bothered to post it - spite isn't a very good
motivation for doing things. Personally, I think his approach is much too
simplistic to be useful. But if people wanted to pay for his product, more
power to him.
If you are interested in a "better" approach to assembly code, check out
Terse (not coded in Euphoria, sorry). It's got some pretty interesting
ideas.

I downloaded the PDS a while ago, but I couldn't make heads or tails of
it myself (not unlike you ;)
I guess it's supposed to be able to let you create a custom scripting
language to write your programs in, then it converts it to assembler.
I haven't looked at it any further, so I couldn't tell you any more
than that :)
