1. An open letter to the Euphoria powers that be.

I have seen complaints from newbies that Euphoria sucks.
You've seen them.

I was going to suggest to this individiual that he try Mike's Editor instead
of the stock Euphoria Editor. (I know that I couldn't get to first base untill
I download that program.)
However I was unable find that file in the Archives anymore.

Also based on all problems I have reading about with 2.5, I would have
suggested he start off with ver. 2.4.
That version seems not to be in the Archives either.

Another disgrunteled user complained that he was having problems with IDE.
I was going to suggest to him to try an earlier version by Davids Cuny
(written in another language).
Alas I could not find that file in the Archives anymore.

Just a suggestion:, but when you guys update to a new improved version
of a program why can't you keep the older version in the Archive also.
Let the downloader select which version he or she wants.

And fimnally what happend to Euphoria to C translator I can't find that
anywhere in the Archive.

I'm not sure which file you are talking about, but you might
look in the Editors section of the Archive.

That wouldn't be my recommendation.
The only real "problem" compared to 2.4, is that
if you have a computer that's more than say 3 years old,
and you run a huge program, it will take several seconds
longer to start up. If you bind or translate that program
it will actually start up faster using 2.5.
In the 2.5 beta I'm sure I (and maybe others) can tweak
a few things in the front-end to speed things up to
some extent.

In the past we have maintained parallel versions during the
alpha/beta phase. This time I felt that:

   1. 2.5 is pretty stable

   2. Newbies will be confused by the differences between 2.4
and 2.5, so they might as well start with 2.5.
2.5 isn't just some bug fixes and small enhancements over 2.4,
but rather, many important things have changed:
no more "Complete Edition" interpreter or translator,
      PD source available,
      prices all different,
      no more shipping option,
Interpreter package is now called "Binder", etc.
binder works very differently: produces .il files
      translator is bundled in

You can still get the PD 2.4 here:

That's going back a long way. Didn't David include his IDE
in his Win32Lib package? There's a user contribution today
with a bound version of a stable recent release of the IDE
and Win32Lib. Maybe he should try that.

We rarely delete files from the Archive unless the author
submits a new improved version.

There used to be a section on the download page for the Translator.
It had a bunch of .zips for various platforms.
That section is gone now, because all the Translator files
that you need (for DOS or Windows) are now included in the
main download package (1.8Mb). (and the Linux/FreeBSD interpreter
package now includes the Linux and FreeBSD translator stuff).

Seems like only yesterday (or maybe 4 years ago) RobC was saying it was
mandatory the download fit on a 1.44 floppy, and this was the reason new
features were not added to the language.

That's silly.
If you can find that in the message archive
I'll give you a Micro buck. smile

The package is bigger now because:
   - base package has grown (PD source, backend.exe etc.)
   - more convenient for people who want to use interpreter and translator
   - more convenient for me to prepare 1 package, rather than 8
   - more people have high-speed Internet access

Does this quicky search suffice?:

You turned down Irv's request for structures, because of code bloat.

You said:
It would mean a larger EUPHOR20.ZIP file.

http://rays-web.com/eufaq.htm says Eu fits on a floppy, but has no words from
you or
about code bloat, just that Eu is simple and such.

With the 2.5 being twice the cost, a single Eubuck buys only half what it once
did.
Just as i almost got enough eubucks to buy another copy of v1.4 too!
