Where to put Eu in Linux

All, Since I'm new to Eu in Linux I have a question about where to put Eu. I downloaded the PD Eu .tar file. By default, I saved it to my /home directory. When I tar-ed it, it created the directories under my home directory. Is that the "preferred" place for Eu in Linux or is there another? Thanks, Jonas
