Rob will have to answer this one. That's just the way it works. You have to remember, the whole system "evolved" in small increments, over many years. It wasn't "intelligently designed" from scratch. The message board was added relatively recently, on top of the existing message archive. It would be possible to enlarge the number of recent messages accessible via the message board interface. I'd have to get Junko to work on that. It's her area. I'm also getting kind of low on disk space. The message board more than doubles the amount of disk space per message. Anyway, the message archive contains all messages for more than a decade. I'd like to open source all this stuff, but there are some "secret" things like password mechanisms, spam filtering algorithms etc. that it's better to hide from the world.
