the best way to deal with that? get DSL or cable internet access.

seriously, with so many Americans getting broadband these days -- isn't it up to
40% and growing fast? -- look for those services to fade away.

DSL here in Fort Worth, TX, is $26 a month and cable is running some promotion
about $19 a month. that's less than <cough> AOL. plus, isn't another physical
phone line cheap, too?

if you're seriously considering Radio Shack's deal, check out eBay -- i saw
their hardware (search "catch-a-call") for $0.01 to $0.99 and up -- no reserve
price.
