SUSY, GUTS and TOE's (Theory Of Everything) are indeed the cutting edge.
They are not expected to invalidate Quantum Mechanics in any way,
but to explain how General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics can both
be true. I would be putting my money (if I had any) on the 'information'
theories (M theory) that see the universe as composed of processes
rather than things. What we see as objects are just information. What
we see as forces are actually information exchanges.

(I am not a scientist and don't know what I'm talking about.)
