my search always leads me back to python.
Julia is also worth a decent look. Like python's pip, Julia's import Pkg; Pkg.add("<Somelib>") just works, albeit quite often taking quite a bit longer that your usual tea/coffee-break (and sadly missing if not already installed then).
I also quite like Go, but "go get" just simply isn't on the same level, and I've never found a decent working GUI for Go. Ruby is a maybe too, but I really struggle to navigate their docs. There's also a quirky little thing called Wren, but afaik that doesn't have any kind of package manager/installer of any kind. However, and this is a very big stumbling block for me, none of them are easy to run in a web browser... and that alone puts paid to any thoughts of me ever jumping ship.
However, phix is currently the direct solution for me . and there is still enough for me to learn. If you take a closer look, phix offers a lot more than OE.(I really started reading the documentation 
) At least I don't have to endure a pitying grin anymore when I refer someone to the website (especially the online documentation) of my favorite programming language. (not that it really bothers me, the result counts).

Kind words, thank you. I'm always up for any (specific) ways to improve the web site, or docs, or Phix itself. Don't be shy now. One thing Phix really lacks is a YouTube presence, but I can't do everything.
I've just had a really good week. Over the 2nd and 3rd Jan 2025 I broke through a significant stumbling block re canvas/image/pixbuf, and 5/1/25 saw me scribble down an updated to-do list for xpGUI, the thing I've been (probably gloriously pointlessly) slaving away on for two whole years now, and it comfortably fits on a single side of A5. Gonna keep the secrets/vaporware to meself for now, but I'm slowly building up a pretty decent plan for Phix 2.0...
