Code Bounty

What are the correct buzzwords to represent a block of code in any language that uses the computer's hardware ports (or one of the many Chinese ethernet-serial dongles) to do data i/o, to which i can interface with any language, such as calling a batch file to shove a data file out the parport? Or read in data as long as a handshake line is active, and save the read data to a file?

Such as a batch file to put the puter into hibernation regardless of Win7's dozen gotchas or rules against it:
C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll, SetSuspendState 0,1,0 It's such a simple thing. Why can't I/O be as simple?

There seems to be a brick wall between modern computer software and the hardware outside the box. While i have hung dozens of homemade cards and 1000's of chips off a C64, that doesn't get me any closer to (for instance) clocking an eprom into a wintel box. Or turning on a motor with OE.

If there are "correct buzzwords", i can post them to freelance sites like Fiverr?

Kat
