Well, perhaps but you would be a good chance of getting it wrong! There is some (slight) difference from state to state but generally speaking we all sound the same! I would say it is easier to tell if someone is an urban or rural Aussie than to be able to pinpoint their state. An excellent BBC program on worldwide English stated that the Australian accent is basically consistent country wide and is just about the only country that is. Mark
