I am trying to use a Combo control, preselecting a value from the list, but
giving the user the opportunity to overwrite the preselected value.

I simply populate the list with a bunch of names using addItem(), and when I
encounter in my source data the name I want to preselect, I use setIndex()
to effect the selection. This is done in an onOpen handler for the window
that is the parent of the Combo control.

The Combo control does not appear to be editable. It is behaving just like a
dropdown list box. Why?
