The acronym GUI stands for "Graphical User Interface" and
CGI stands for "Common Gateway Interface"

The only things in common are that they are both interfaces and have a TLA.

CGI : http://www.chami.com/Tips/internet/062898I.html
    : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_gateway_interface

GUI : http://www.cnet.com/Resources/Info/Glossary/Terms/gui.html
    : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphical_user_interface

In short,

* CGI is a set of rules and operations that standardize the way a program can
get and send web pages.

* GUI is a method of using non-text-only items to present information to a
progam's user. Windows uses a GUI but DOS does not.

Hi Don...

The first hit from Google is:

http://www.cgi101.com/book/

Looks like a good one! Give it a read, and if you need clarification ask away.
I'll be lurking ;) Later...

4. Re: What's the difference between GUI and CGI?

Thank you Derek and Duke,

That pretty well covers it.

Since I don't plan on creating any web pages at this time I don't see much
point in learning CGI. I pretty much know what GUI is.

  And Merry Christmas to everybody.
