I mean weird *text* characters, not weird list members :)) Ray has had problems with weird text characters in his posts, interfering with sharing his first Euphoria program, and I've noticed this problem in various other posts before, & in Tone Skoda's recent one too. Does anyone have a definitive understanding of and solution for this problem? Similar (same?) problem in Ray's attachment of his program. Dan Moyer

To check this supposition I'll post this message twice: with Russian characters and without them. Didn't Ray say it was because of the 8-bit encoding setting in his mail client... If not, then maybe he's using a different character encoding for his e-mails. I don't think I've noticed that, though. I do know that some people on this list use Russian encoding. Topica is the problem there. It messes up different encodings completely. >From: Dan Moyer <DANIELMOYER at prodigy.net> >Subject: weird characters in posts > > >I mean weird *text* characters, not weird list members :)) > >Ray has had problems with weird text characters in his posts, interfering >with sharing his first Euphoria program, and I've noticed this problem in >various other posts before, & in Tone Skoda's recent one too. Hi Dan As you say making an attachment made no difference, but see below. Igor Kachan wrote: > It seems to me, Topica inserts these "=3D20" things > if it finds any character with the code above 127 > in the input email. > To check this supposition I'll post this message twice: > with Russian characters and without them. Hi Igor Yes, but that is only half the problem. If the over 127 characters are avoided then it seems to work. But if they are used it can come OK if you= are careful (I think). As I wrote before: "I cannot find anything in Netscape email to turn mime off. However I did find an unchecked a box labeled: "for messages that contain 8 bit characters, use 'quoted printable' MIME encoding. Leave unchecked to send the message as is." I have now ticked this because maybe some of my posts do have 8 bit characters. Certainly the problem one had a copyright character =3D =A9 so I will see what happens to this one." And as you see the copyright comes out OK in this one and no weird stuff.= I notice as stated that it was not only my posts. I might try and post my= first program again as I think this really is the solution this time. Regards Ray
