1. Win32Lib, wxEuphoria or Arwen

I found another library for building GUIs. Anybody want to spend another $0.35 and opine as to the features/characteristics of a project that would gravitate towards Arwen rather then either Win32Lib or Arwen? Thanks Mike

Well, obviously I meant Win32Lib or wxEuphoria, but it appears that Arwen has no built in capability for treeviews or for "fancy" listviews. Both of which are imperative for my project, so I think Arwen won't cut it for me. Shame, though, because I have familiarity with windows' resource files and the way that Arwen implements its structure is very familiar to me. Oh, well. Thanks Mike

Hi Mike, I developed Arwen for speed so wasn't too concerned that it is not very feature rich. However, Pete Lomax enhanced it even more and bundles a fork of it with Edita. That could have what you mention below so I wouldn't right Arwen off entirely just yet.. too bad about not having a GUI form developer though Another tool you may consider using is Orac. If your project is REALLY big and you need to write lots 'n lots of modules and you DON'T want to spend ANY time rearranging the include order of files just to get the thing to compile properly, then, you may find Orac very helpful. OTOH, once you start using it, there's no going back.. "take the blue pill and believe whatever you want to later, or take the red one and see just how deep the rabbit warren goes.." Part of it actually comes from putting various wrappers around the same thing in different ways, which may be more convenient for users who don't know how Windows works under the hood. Geeks would call it code bloat. Arwen needs less of these features because it is simply more low level. You need to know Windows more to use it, but are less bothered by code which is only convenient. However, things like the event or form systems are, I believe, real features in win32lib, and they make it more effective. CChris > Another tool you may consider using is Orac. Oh yeah, there's also WinClass by Al Getz. That definitely has Treeviews & Listviews (according to the blurb) Mike Mike wrote: > > Hi Mike, > > I developed Arwen for speed so wasn't too concerned that it is not very > feature > rich. Thanks, Mike. I have downloaded both Orac and Arwen and have played around a bit. It is looking to me like Win32Lib is winning out because of the IDE (see other posts). But one never knows what the next project will require! Mike
