1. Suggestions for RDS

Hello, This is just my opinion, but... 1./ As someone said in an earlier post, the listserv is NOT sufficient. More often than not, my posts don't even make it to the list. As well, I spend a lot of time sorting throught the 'Junk' that I'm not interested in. I believe it is essential that Rob investigate a better forum, where posts are sorted into topics AT LEAST! Please Rob, if only for the benifite of RDS. I've done some investigating in the past for RDS, as well as for my own site, and I do agree, that the free boards are just too much a pain in the behind. Not to mention, I don't think they would like the idea of a Commercial business utilizing their FREE forum. I've seen many that allow users to select which topics they would like to have sent to their email. This I like very much. This allows the users to keep in touch with topics of interest. Although, they would still have to check the forum periodically for new topics. 2./ If RDS would implement a chat board on the site, I think that's the only way that Eu will have one. Otherwise, it's just too difficult to coordinate it without the support of RDS. 3./ A project board!! What better way to congregate users of similar interest? This would also allow, people to team up much more easily, making development of new libs/progs extremely faster. 4./ Like Ray said.. A polling list. Where users could add their comments, and/or suggestions. Allowing RDS to see exactly what the public demands. Though I don't like the idea of having to pay extra for more features. My main attraction to EU was that it was free in the beginning. After using it for quite a while I was very happy to pay for a registered version. BUT, IMHO, as Eu stands it IS still just a hobby language. And if it were a commercial development langauage, I would have NEVER been attracted to it. 5./ possibly set up a way for the more sophisticated libs/progs to be compensated for their efforts. Unfortunately, although I like the idea of the micro-ecomomy, it isn't sufficient compensation for the work involved to get anything out of it. Has anyone earned enough Eu$ to pay for the latest copy of EU? I personally could care less about a $5 discount on my purchase. (And that's typically a LOT of coding to earn even that much EU dough). Especially considering that the users who will be motivated by the micro-economy, are mostly newbies, looking to possibly earn their reg'd copy of EU. At least consider the top four. This will benifit RDS above and beyond even the users. But will also help to organize, production of better quality, apps and libs that will benifit everyone including the progress or Euphoria. Any comments anyone? Chris Bensler ________________________________________________________________

I forgot to mention... if time is a factor in website development. Perhaps people on the list would be willing to help out? I for one would be glad to.. though my HTML skills are limited.. I DO know what I'm doing. And I know how to look up info for whatever I don't. Chances are.. this would mean including java.. ( Sorry Kat ) But of course that could be limited to the minimal required, and I think that even Kat would trust RDS. Or for that matter, I'm thinking the only place it would be needed would be for the chat room, which I think Kat has the most expertise in anyways. Maybe link the chat room to her favorite IRC.. sorcery.net This could be a group effort. I'm sure there are plenty of you out there who at least partially agree with me. And considering the current chaos of trying to communicate through the listserv, I think it's definitely worth a try. If Rob isn't willing to do a makeover on his site, then I suggest we collaborate and create an independent user designed site devoted to EU progress. The only thing that rest in the lap of RDS, is wether or not they are willing to overhaul their site. And finding a sufficient, commercial message forum. Hi Chris, When running any business cost is a prevalent factor. The Euphoria list serv is actually run by a generous friend of Robert's *as a favour*. Yes ithe list server has limitations and yes it can be frustrating to use but if the choice is no discussion forum at all then I, for one, am currently willing to take the rough with the smooth. That is not to say that I am against any of your ideas - quite the opposite. I would love a more organised forum (of forums) for Euphoria discussion. All the ideas you suggest would be wonderful. Just please bear in mind the restrictions that might be "at the backend" - that is RDS's cash flow. In time I sincerely hope these things will come. One way that this can be encouraged is to spread the word about Euphoria (I certainly do!) - as more interest is generated then more people will use the trial version of Euphoria and hopefully join the list server. As more people use Euphoria and learn is benefits via great advice from established members of the Euphoria list server then more will be encouraged to register and hemce provide funds to RDS. Such funds will help develop Euphoria and, I hope, fund a better discussion forum. Corollary: No business is a charity but I know businesses that welcome charity! Regards, Andy Cranston. Hi, Chris. The last time I checked, there was already a Euphoria group on Usenet, but I haven't checked for a long time. No one was using it. Also, if you use the web interface, you can sort by thread. Your mail reader should also be able to sort by subject line. It should be relatively easy to filter out the messages and/or subjects that you are not interested in. I can't remember who suggested it, but I do like the idea of putting the general subject tag (such as [GEN] [WIN] [LINUX] etc.) into the message subject line. I think that Travis Beatty made an excellent humor post a couple of months back with some, umm, detailed tags for subject lines. But I guess my point is that I think that the listserv works great for most people. Feel free to try to get people to change, though! ------ >Hello, > > This is just my opinion, but... > >1./ > > As someone said in an earlier post, the listserv is NOT sufficient. Well, David Cuny has earned almost enough for TWO upgrades of Euphoria with Win32lib :) - Matt
