1. What is DDE?
I'm familiar with TCP/IP/Socks/etc., but DDE is one of those Windows things I
never paid much attention to. Kat mentioned something about it being more secure
than Socks. A link to an FAQ page would be a great help.

It's an older Windows application automation technology, replaced by OLE,
ADO, etc... I doubt it will be supported anymore in the near future...

Actually I haven't touched euAllegro since before Xmas.
I needed a break, as well as the fact that I am studying (supposed to
be studying!) for my Microsoft Certified Solution Developer Certificate.
I passed the first exam and have 3 to go which will take a few months.
(I know I know ... but I have to pay the bills!)
..meaning don't expect to many updates or new software from me in the
near future.
I'll still do my best to help anyone using current libraries with maybe
the occasional update ... since Euphoria programming is like ... *FUN*
and Visual Basic is like ... *WORK*.

I think i remember microsoft saying they would not support it anymore,
after win95, but it is still used in such applications as the clipboard, Word,
Internet Explorer, etc. in win98, etc.. DR DOS has a similar msg handler
for applications to talk to each otherr.
As for an url, i don't know.... Try a word search for "DDEML" , and look in
the help files in Delphi and Pascal. Oddly, the DDE in turbo pascal v7 in
win3.11 will not work in win95. Naturally, the DDE explainations in mirc are
quite an overview, with no details. I have not upgraded mirc in several
version releases, and i hear OLE and such is now supported in mirc.
Something else i noted, in mirc, if a dde message is sent to a DDE handle
that doesn't exist, *if* windoze is sending back an error, and it should be,
mirc discards it. If nothing else, this makes it easy to write an application
that can function without blowing up or tossing error messages when the
dde extension to it is missing. Since this can be a problem in my code, to
have a big hunk of it, an entire thread, missing, i do implement
handshaking and timeouts.

What is tested?
The material tested is quite broad but focuses alot on COM components,
ADO (data access) usage, MTS (that's Microsoft Transaction Server!),
and SQL server.
There is also an elective exam and an advanced analysis exam.
I had used VB (I'm doing the VB strand) quiet a bit previously but not
alot of the things that where tested ... so even people who have used VB
alot may need to study a few areas extensively.
What does it mean?
It is a nice qualification to have, but you still need experience when
going for that job. It doesn't mean you are a great programer, or
even that you can program. It just means you how to use most of
what MS believe to be the important technologies.
I used to be a die hard VB fan, then I was a die hard Euphoria fan ...
now I just realise all languages have pros and cons and you use the one
you know the best or best suited for the job.
