1. Audio and MIDI on DOS or Linux

I'm trying to create a synthesizer program in Euphoria that will run on all platforms, but my main focus is either DOS or Linux because I plan to build a dedicated box that I can use on stage and connect to a MIDI controller (keyboard). I don't want a blOAted OS on there <cough> <WINDOWS> <cough> <cough>. I'm leaning towards using FreeDOS because it basically boots in less time than it takes for a motherboard to do a Power On Seft Test! A small linux distro might be fine, too. All I need to do is basically generate sound and output it to the sound card, at least 44.1 k stereo with as little latency as possible. There seems to be one old DOS sound library, and none for linux. As far as MIDI, I don't know of any Euphoria libraries. I think it's possible to recieve MIDI input through a serial port, I probably just have to make an adapter and study the MIDI specification. But that's alot harder than just using a already-made library! Does anyone know anything that could help me? Or have a sound/MIDI library I could use? ~Ryan W. But the newer sound cards require driver's to use them. You might look at the above software to get some ideas. Also you might want to look at pete's MOD player. Which another way to make music and sound. http://www.rapideuphoria.com/modwave.zip Bernie My files in archive: WMOTOR, XMOTOR, W32ENGIN, MIXEDLIB, EU_ENGIN, WIN32ERU, WIN32API Can be downloaded here: http://www.rapideuphoria.com/cgi-bin/asearch.exu?dos=on&win=on&lnx=on&gen=on&keywords=bernie+ryan
