Ryan:

   There is MIDI software in the archive.

   http://www.rapideuphoria.com/stuff.zip 

   On the older soundcards it was much easier to directly
   control the soundcard with dos. But the newer sound cards
   require driver's to use them.

  You might look at the above software to get some ideas.
  Also you might want to look at pete's MOD player. Which another
  way to make music and sound.
