OK, CK: Euphoria does not run on the latest Debian, as far as I can tell, because Debian no longer includes libgpm (mouse library) or the libraries it depends upon. (libc5 or something). Irv

Stable but out of date. For example, I tried to load Knoppix (Debian based) on my AMD64 and it chocked. Mandrake worked fine. I researched and found the only Linux distros that support AMD64 are Gentoo, Redhad/Fedora, Suse, and Mandrake. This and AMD64s and Opterons have been out for a couple years? Uhmmm. Also, the latest GCC is AMD64 enabled (plus other things). Rob, how about an Euphoria64? Tux-ly, -- jon

Stable but out of date. Well, if woody is a 2 year old package, and there's not a newer one, then that IS the latest Debian, is it not? And, by the way, Euphoria runs fine on Slack, Mandrake, Red Hat, Suse, etc. versions which are two or more years old. It's just that Debian leaves out the necessary library, and it isn't available via apt-get. Copying one from some other distribution is likely to cause problems. Irv

To All, Some body suggested making a Euphoria FAQ. I would volunteer except for two reasons: 1) I don't have full internet access, ie uploading and 2) I'm not sure what a FAQ is. Any way I decided to keep a record of the letters, starting about the 13th of August, as that's when I joined. I'm not going to keep code! So much of it is sent through, the record would be huge. I thought I would divide it into 4 sections DATA, INPUT, OUTPUT, OTHER. Does that sound OK. They would all have sub-sections. Eg INPUT would have subsections CONSOLE, FILE, PORT etc. I would sort it by date and would keep who sent the info in the record. If any one wants the info ask, on the list or email me. However after October I can't promise prompt, if any service. Hopefully that should change in Februrary or March. Any thing else I should consider? Oh and I downloaded that INTEL file, haven't read it yet, but it is 4085738 bytes or 3.9MB. It took me 50 minutes to dowload and is 299 pages long. I may wade through it and summarise it, if I get time. Ask Dave I'll make time, though I haven't sent him that code. I've searched the digests/archives several times for a routine I'd seen before but hadn't needed at the time. My first semi-functioning EU program was a snippet database using TxtGUI to store 'em in. I got off track and never got the boolean searches and editor tie-in code done though. Now I've got a sort of Stddef.e for those sorts of odds and ends...but it'll doubtless be continually changing. So I'll volunteer to help with a FAQ/distillation of routines. I have plenty of webspace available too, that's been just waiting for me to make some Euphoria pages. :) Falkon

For starters, until someone comes up with a better idea, I will try to divide things into 3 sections: 1. Euphoria FAQ - what is Euphoria, who is behind it, other history. 2. Euphoria Hints - how to do (whatever) when the aanswer doesn't require much or any code. Lots of these question can be gleaned from the listserver. 3. Euphoria Snippits - like the old Pascal SWAG, except with a nice WWW interface. Short routines that everybody neede sooner or later. I think it will be important to format the code in a standard way, to make reading and understanding easier, and each snippet should have a test stub to prove the function and demonstrate the calling method. Obviously, the more comments the better. This should be *really* important if the Linux guys happen to join in. They will be asking the same questions all over again. If anyone knows of a really nice FAQ site, please let me know. I'm not too proud to steal a good idea. Thanks for your help: Contacts for the FAQ will be posted on my web site, tonight, and code can be uploaded there at any time it's convenient. (Email it if you prefer.) I have Linux on my system and I have Lynx on there. Mabye I could do a "Lynx Enhanced" FAQ in HTML? However, most Linux users have a 486 with 8 MB RAM or higher (I have a P166 16 MB RAM) and they have X Windows. The X Windows people have developed Netscape for X Windows (XNetscape). Unrelated: I can't seem to sync my X Windows any higher than 320x200. I want my resolution to 800x600. I have an S3 ViRGE PCI with 4 MB VRAM. I lost the manual to my monitor , but I know that for 800x600 is around 73 Hz. - Nate -----Original Message----- From: Irv <irv at ELLIJAY.COM> To: EUPHORIA at LISTSERV.MUOHIO.EDU <EUPHORIA at LISTSERV.MUOHIO.EDU> Date: July 30, 1998 10:42 AM Subject: Re: Euphoria FAQ >bonn ortloff wrote: > >> One of the things I excel in is Web page making. I didn't have to do any of that grunge work in setting up X :D If my memory serves, it also had a GUI-ish interface... ;) >Oh, and BTW, what's the newest version of Lynx, and what does it >support? >Eh.. what exactly DOES it support ? >Just kidding. >It support links, and that's about it.. the rest of the HTML code >is stripped out. yup, there's no formatting to speak of. although, Lynx does do a nice job of ignoring the italics, bold, etc. If you open an xterm running Lynx in X Windows, the headings are bigger ;) you should have some nice HTML formatting for those who are using XNetscape, or Arena, or those other graphical Xbrowsers. Anyone who can is probably running X with a nice browser, so there shouldn't be *that* many who use Lynx... am I wrong? ----->Buddy budmeister1 at juno.com _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
