All, You're all going to laugh but...after my first run-in with a malware I realized that my anti-virus software (which I THOUGHT would detect spyware) missed a malware program that I discovered this morning. I'm looking at Ad-Aware and Spybot-S&D. Anybody have any preferences over the two? One better than the other? Thanks! Jonas Temple http://www.yhti.net/~jktemple

Update frequently. And disable the antivirus while you running a check, otherwise it takes forever. Denes.

Both are good, and AVG makes an anti-virus that can catch most of the trojans and auto-downloaders that Ad-Aware and SpyBot-S&D miss. Just be sure to update at every opportuntity! http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_trial.php -Brent O' -------------- Original message -------------- > posted by: D L > > > Jonas Temple wrote: > > > > I'm looking at Ad-Aware and Spybot-S&D. Best bet if anyone starts experiencing catastrophic spyware issues: Backup and re-install windows, download SP2, and keep it updated. I did this several weeks ago and I haven't had any spyware issues. I know SP2 isn't on everyone's to-do list, but I personally have had no issues with it. SP2 even includes a built-in popup blocker for Internet Explorer! Also, making yourself a normal user, and not an Administrator really helps prevent those nasty spyware programs from installing themselves. ~Greg ----- Original Message ----- From: Brent O'Gara <d_brent_ogara at comcast.net> Date: Tue, 28 Sep 2004 17:25:15 +0000 Subject: Re: [OT] - Opinions on spyware blocker To: euforum at topica.com Both are good, and AVG makes an anti-virus that can catch most of the trojans and auto-downloaders that Ad-Aware and SpyBot-S&D miss.
