1. simple spanish - english dictionary
does anybody have a free simple spanish - english dictionary?
in database format? (i'll take it in any format i can get it)
i'm developing a simple flash card system for a beginner's spanish class.
it doesn't need to have hundreds of thousands of entries, just a simple one
to begin with. i googled and got millions of hits. thanks!

If you got it on google, you still need one? Tiggr has 3 spanish<=>english
dictionaries, 6 megabytes total.
They are of the forms:
ropa = clothes, clothing
ropa de caballeros = menswear
ropa de cama = bedding, bedclothes
and
madhouse
<spa= <N=CASA DE LOCOS; MANICOMIO; LOQUERA>>
madly
<spa= <ADV=LOCAMENTE; FURIOSAMENTE; COMO UN LOCO; CON
RABIA>>
and
overstate
<spa=exagerar | overstate | >
overstated
<spa=exagerado | exagerada | exagerados | exageradas | exagerado |
exagerada | exagerados | exageradas | overstated | >
(strangely, this last one is the biggest, but is the most sparse)
Does anyone know, since i mined them from copyrighted pages for my own
use, can i give them away? I don't have the pages, and i assume the
language isn't copyrighted, but this is sorta fuzzy to me.

Can Tiggr do a grammatical translation (as opposed to word-for-word)?
You know that translator they have at altavista.com? It does a
seemingly decent job at that. Just curious if you gave Tiggr the ability
to "speak" Espanol.

The short answer is no, she doesn't. The *entire* block of translation
code=
is=20
deleted from her, it's not loaded, not called, not executed. People
abused =
it.=20
They wanted porn, they wanted porn that i didn't want in my irc logs
or on =
my
screen. After that, and no interest from here, i quit all work on
languages=
. I=20
still have the 2+ gigabytes of language data mined up till then,
translatio=
ns,=20
semantic, and syntactic. I stopped work on the Metaphone and Soundex
too, i had both done in Eu, plus one i wrote that worked better than
either=
,
you could specify options.
I know of Altavista, i had Tiggr plugged into Bablefish in the late
1990's.=
Lag=20
was horrible, especially translating (for instance) Italian to German
thru=
Bablefish, which as you know, it doesn't do.
[19:13] <Fuzzness> !t e-s please do not type in capital letters
[19:28] <[Tiggr]> por favor hacer no tipo en may=FAsculas
How's that for lag?!? 15 minutes for Bablefish!!
Here's Spanish to German,, anyone know how correct it was?
<kat> !t s-g esto es un canal de la prueba para el BOT
<[Tiggr]> dieses ist eine F=FChrung des Tests f=FCr das BOT
<kat> !translate g-i das Buch war dort
<[TiggrBot]> l=E0 le livre =E9tait
Things like this made me give up on Bablefish:
<kat> !translate e-f gulp
<[TiggrBot]> groupe d'octets
<kat> !t f-e groupe d'octets
<[TiggrBot]> group bytes
I suppose if i was interesting to anyone, i'd still be doing such work.

Considering how poorly i communicate, i don't think it would help you. It's not
"a" file, it's three, each in a slightly different form (i quit working on them
4
years ago when no one else was interested). I didn't know you wanted them.
No one answered how legal it was for me to give them out.
I think my neighbor and i will be spending each other into bankruptcy, putting
each other in jail repeatedly over a dog. I think the dog has no rights to be on
my property attacking me, and he thinks i have no right to defend myself.
This is a game he will win, because it involves money and communication
with southern usa rednecks, not fairness or established legal rights. I will be
homeless again and even deeper into poverty, proving once more that
education doesn't matter in life. Forget the flashcards, Otterdad, the kids will
go farther if they vote how their preacher says, hate all those not in their
cult,
chug cheap beer like a fish, solve all problems with violence, and get
pregnant while 12 yrs old.

It's not illegal to hand out a text file of English<->Spanish words...
no matter where you get the source. Nobody can copyright that.
