Get Best Contents from the Internet (mostly for FREE) http://www.playhere.com ====================================================================== Hoi Euphoria Programming for MS-DOS, I wonder if Euphoria (and all--or most-- of its components) are free and better if open source. Just like DJGPP. We can get the source for anything free, modify free, and get anything for free. Not just for the compiler, but also for editors and utils contained. Maybe like Linux. But also, of course, additional "plug-ins" created by different authors are up to the authors themselves. But things common would be wonderful if open source, under GNU GPL or something. It's not impossible for Euphoria to be big, right? Just wonder if Visual Euphoria .... would be as big as Delphi, VC, etc. It's not a dream anyway. Well, just a useless thought. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year too. Selamat Natal dan Tahun Baru. If you don't reply this letter, I'll kill you, Ceefour => ceefour.home.ml.org I took an IQ test and the results were negative.

Hey, I didn't get the thing about registered Eu (didn't have the time to read the docs what's it? do I have to register it to make commercial apps or something? >> Visual Euphoria .... would be as big as Delphi, VC, etc. It's not a >> dream anyway. > That's what I expect for Visual Euphoria. BTW has anyone done a comparison of the compilers? Of course say that assembler compiler is faster than Pascal, Pascal is faster than C, C is faster than C++, so, where's Eu's compiler in there? (not based on "experience", but on research) > [Visual Euphoria note: > [ Next release is a bit delayed... to much work right now. > [ I'm planning to add a simple (but powerful) database > [ system too. The CGI interface will be next. Database system? Euch! That could be interesting but what? In what format? Will it have the features like what we can get in.... BDE? Okay, okay,... how about like what we get in TClientDataSet (Delphi/CB) ? From the documentation: > Licensing --------- You have complete royalty-free rights to any Euphoria programs that you develop. You are free to distribute the Public Domain Edition ex.exe and/or exw.exe either separately or bound with your program. You may incorporate any Euphoria .e, .ew, .ex or .exw files from this package into your program, either "as is" or with your modifications. (You will probably need at least a few of the standard include files in any large program). We would appreciate it if you told people that your program was developed using Euphoria, and gave them the address: http://members.aol.com/FilesEu/ of our Web page, but we do not require any such acknowledgment. The only files that you may *not* distribute are the ex.exe and exw.exe files that come with the Complete Edition. >BTW has anyone done a comparison of the compilers? Of course say that >assembler compiler is faster than Pascal, Pascal is faster than C, C >is faster than C++, so, where's Eu's compiler in there? (not based on >"experience", but on research) Well, ignoring the fact that Euphoria is not compiled, but interpreted, we also have to decide what we mean by faster: Do we want faster program design, faster coding, faster compile time, or faster run time? For example, a program witten in Euphoria "compiles" in a fraction of a second. The same thing in C may take 20-30 seconds to compile with gcc. Now, if I make mistakes in my program (who doesn't?) I have to correct the code and re-compile. If I do this, say 50 times while developing a program, which is faster? The finished C program will most likely run faster than Euphoria. But does it matter? If I'm writing a game, probably yes. But most programs spend their time waiting for user input anyway; for them, execution speed isn't very important. Irv

Desember 1998!!! > But most programs spend their time waiting for user input anyway; for them, > execution speed isn't very important. Okay, so, it's already lost at run time. Even though it sez "high-speed". How about at compile time compared to Pascal? (okay, it's TP7) Okay, "compile time" this means the speed it needs to read a handwritten human source code... Is it reliable for writing big programs?
