1. Kate editor
I heard a rumor that Kate is the best editor for programming for Linux.
Is this true?
I have:
Advanced Editor
CoolEdit
Emacs
Gedit
Kate -- but clicking on this doesn't work
Kedit
KHexEdit
Nedit
VI editor
I have Mandrake 9.2, download edition, 3 CDs. No Kate RPM on any of
them.
No Kate editor on freshmeat.
The Kate website gives a bunch of information about how great Kate is
but apparently no way to get Kate.
Two questions:
1. Is Kate really the best?
2. If YES to Q1, then how can I get it?

Jerry,
I don't know if Kate is the best programming editor
for Linux - but it should be on your Mandrake 9.2
installation if you have KDE installed - its part of
the KDEBASE package. Which desktop are you using? Kate
and Kwrite are shown on my KDE/Mandrake editor menu's
and I can access them from Gnome and XFCE as well.
1. try typing "kate" into an xterm window
2. Wait for Irv to come up with a real answer

Euman updated the Kate syntax file to include code folding, which is a
*major* improvement. He also added a very useful feature which lets
you designate blocks of code surrounded by -- BEGIN (description) and
-- END tags, and each of these blocks can be collapsed into one line,
unless you need to see/edit them.
The updated file is now on the RDS webpage.

Well you guys have gone and done it now...
I'm hooked. The best editor for Euphoria Linux / BSD simply has to be
Kate with euphoria.xml.
