1. Bug Report - Bernie's Win32Engine

Bernie,

When running TBAR.EXW in Windows 2000... :)

I get the following strange message box:

Application Error: C:\EUPHORIA\BIN\EXW.EXE

"The instruction at 00417608 referenced memory at 000000008
The memory could not be written

Click on OK to terminate the application

[OK]

2. Re: Bug Report - Bernie's Win32Engine

Hi, Bernie. Just checked my version and I've got Service Pack 2, which is
the latest available for Windows 2000 (see
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/).

I did run the program in Windows 95 and it worked fine. The one thing I
noticed was that the big EUPHORIA image does not get displayed in the Win2K
version. Maybe this is a clue!

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help track this problem down.

Thanks,
ck

I also got running my linux redhat 7.1 today: all i can say: crap compared
to windows.
I got one question: how do you access windows files (which are on other
partition)?
You can't run quake on linux??

You most certainly can run Dos or Win from Linux

Here are just a couple utilties I know about

DOSEMU
WINE
VMWare

there are many-many others out there.
I have Windows open ontop of Linux right now running concurrent.

You might want to learn Linux first.....< ;)

You can't? It's been available for Linux for several years.

I wouldn't say this before some Linux fanatic :)

You can mount FAT/FAT32 partition like any other.
You can also select this during instalation.

Ah, but to someone accustomed to a Mac, Windows is crap.
And to someone who has used Linux, Mac's are crap.
Use each of these systems 8 hrs a day, 5 days a week, for
a couple of years, then get back to us.

BTW, RedHat - despite the marketing hype - isn't by any means
the 'best' Linux out there, either.

I still miss AmigaOS!

I still keep an A1200 040/40mhz that can be up and
running and doing useful work while my P3 550mhz PC/
Windows is just thinking about it

I vote for Eu for AmigaOS :)

Im partial to RedHat because they made it easy
with the creation of the rpm....They deliver a quality
package every 8 weeks and their support is most
likely the best in the industry...although I do find
compiling my own kernel to be significantly better
for the particular machine I run it on.

and besides that, some of the people who work for
RH are my neighbors...

True, but Mandrake tends to look nicer, have an easier
install, and better security (I am told), even though it is
based on RedHat. Its Software Manager is really slick.

Since Mandrake was the first which recognized and
worked with all my hardware, I have stuck with it.

what is there besides Gnome and KDE?
that can be setup to suit your particular taste.

I currently use a modified firestarter thru ipchains that seems to
be ok at blocking most of the scans I get...it also allows you to
shutdown a port if its being scanned regular from any address.
firestarter is a medium-medium strength *FREE* firewall.

keyword based on RH........

I use a text based install so I dont really know about this.

What hardware did RH not recognise?
The only problem I have ever run into was installing on my laptop
which has a WinModem but fortunately there are drivers that support
the majority of them now....

BTW, great job on the tools you wrote for linux.

The port should either be open or closed. If you have no valid traffic thru it,
the port
should be closed, and not reply to anything sent to it. It's called "stealth"
for some
reason, and what i do on win95. A port that does have valid traffic should still
not send
anything back unless you have an application running to send a reply.

I have most of these setup to Deny access from any packets
sent to me and only allow outgoing packets that I monitor as well.

Thanks Kat, I've been studying up on Hacking a bit here lately
hence my private post to you about *SOCKS. I wish I knew more
about this subject, I follow all of your post and wish I were your
neighbor only so I could look over your shoulder. ;)

Let's see ...
Mandrake's graphical disk partitioning is both more flexible and easier to
use than RedHat's.
The Mandrake control center makes RedHat's configuration tools look
amateurish.
The Software Manager a nice, graphical interface to RPM, which I like
better than RedHat's.

Mandrake comes with firewall installed.

A built-in soundcard. Never worked with anything, except Mandrake.
