Hi,

I played a game a while ago called Textris and it was a Tetris clone =
where you spelt words from falling blocks. I'd like to know, how did it =
know what was/wasn't a word? Did it use a spellchecker or something?

It probably had a master list of words. Everytime you dropped
a letter, it checked to see if you made a word that was in
the list. Of course this is probably how spellcheckers work
too. Just FYI.

Thomas:

Below I transcribe part of the readme.txt for Mike Crick's WordZap, a =
word game (website also below). The version I downloaded is 3.26 (maybe =
old by now), a 700 KB sfx (self-extracting compressed) including the =
program and English, Spanish, French and German dictionaries.

I hope you can use this info.

Quoting readme.txt

Version 4.26 adds access to the Princton University
Lexical Database using a freeware program called=20
WordWeb - giving you instant full word definitions.

Important: WordZap requires Microsoft Direct Play to=20
run. Direct Play comes with Windows 98 and is
installed by Mplayer and many Internet products. If
you do not have Direct Play you will get the message
"Can't find DPLAYX.DLL" To fix this, go to our down-
 load page at http://wordzap.com/download.html and
download and install Direct Play and try again.

End quote

Good luck!
