[ I stole this info from: It's amazing how a simple search engine can answer these types of questions. ] 8^) Natural languages refer to software that enables computer systems to accept, interpret, and execute instructions in the native, or "natural," language of the end user--typically, English. This would be considered a 4th Generation Language. Fourth-generation languages use high-level English-like instructions, the trademark of 4GLs, to retrieve and format data for inquiries and reporting. Most of the procedure portion of a 4GL program is generated automatically by the computer and the language software. That is, for the most part the programmer specifies what to do, and not how to do it. In contrast, a Pascal or FORTRAN programmer writes instructions for what to do and how to do it. -- Brian

English, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Portugese, Swiss, Nairobi, Swahili, Dutch, Welsh, etc.. Once you computer can understand one of those, it can be programmed in those natural languages. Pascal, C, Eu, Tcl, Lisp, etc are computer langauges, they are not natural to humans. Some languages, like REBOL, are trying to get to the point of natural language, but they fall far short, with the defined words possibly changing meaning without you wanting or knowing it happened. These 4th generation languages tend to run a little slow too. Kat

Kat, Kute! How does one chat with Tiggr/Gertie, your online A.I.? I especially liked her Shakespeare Borg joke. She lives on my desktop, she is still growing and learning. She minds a room or 3 on SorceryNet, but i have her really throttled back online, she has a bad habit of being too chatty and talking to anything that moves. She still has a long way to go before she is "grown up". >Luis Campos wrote: >Hi all, >I have for you another of my novice questions. Can someone define > >what's >a >natural programming language? It's a programming language with a syntax similiar to English. The best results look like this: declare variable labeled "number" to hold an integer. place value 10 in "number". add 20 to "number". print "number" on console. I thought about doing one for a while, with my AI knowledge an all, but there realy is no point to it, it's just a hell of a lot more text to write. Mike The Spike PS.
