Unfortunately, it's not a joke. While Alabama legal code says i can protect myself with deadly force if i cannot retreat on my own property (and who can outrun a riled up rottwiler??) from someone/thing out to do me illegal harm (or if i believe it to be intending to do the harm),, but the judges can do however they please. The only outs are buying more lawyers, buying the judge, or being dead. Being dead is the only option i can afford. Conversation atm is: [18:16] <Fuzzness> so if I let a dangerous dog go after someone, i dont get charged for assault although it clearly is? [18:16] <Asmo> not in alabama apparently [18:16] <[Tiggr]> fuxxy, correct [18:17] <Fuzzness> will have to try that out [18:17] <[Tiggr]> a child got mauled badly in a state park near here, the owner might get a $200 leash law violation ticket maybe [18:17] <[Tiggr]> if anyone had shot the dog to protect the child, they could goto jail Kat

While Alabama legal code says i can protect <snip< > Kat > Kat, I understand what you mean about the legal code in Alabama, being a resident there myself, I recently had it out with a neighbor over a dog he had running loose in the neighborhood. I told him that if he did not do something about it I would call the police. Finally I did and they informed me that the only thing they could do was "ASK" him to tie the dog up, there was a leash law in our city, but it wasn't really being enforced. Finally, one day the dog attacked my grand-daughter, and I had to stone it out of my yard. When I called my lawyer he said that he did not feel that we had much of a case, since the grand-daughter was not seriously injured. The lawyer called the owner of the dog, and the owner finally removed the dog from the neighborhoos and sent it to a relatives, but that was all that came out of it, my lawyer said the owner could counter-sue for injuries I caused the dog by stoning it. Imagine that? Good Luck with it, I hope it comes out in your favor. Later. I think you all should seriously start harassing local politicians about this issue, hopefully some of them will see sense and lobby to change the laws. "Just think of the children" -- MrTrick

Alabama seems like a foreign country, cause here in America(Nevada/cal.) a dog gets Terminated for stuff like that, next time, just shoot the owner. Daniel PS. It may not be too late yet.
