1. Connection problem TOTALLY OFF-TOPIC

Dear EUphorians: I know this is completely off-topic, but I need some advice from you, especially from Kat. I was able to connect to www.giga.com.ar without problems up to about one month ago. Since then, I am receiving the errors "No se puede mostrar la página" (Page cannot be shown) and "No se puede encontrar el servidor" (Server cannot be found) every time I try to connect, while any other guy can connect without a single problem. I tried different ISPs, restoring to default IE advanced options, etc. etc. , without avail. I asked several knowledgeable people here: no answer. Does someone have the slightest idea about why this happens? TIA

Hello, Are you using Tcp4u or a normal browser to get pages from this site? Reason I ask is recently I found out how to restrict certain IP#s from my Server here at home. I did this because I got tired of the CodeRed worm looking to see if I have MS-IIs which I dont so I put those request over in the unavail to access bin. Have you tried contacting the webmaster? Euman euman at bellsouth.net ...if the US Government were ever to get really serious about Internet security, the top players in Microsoft's management hierarchy would find themselves handcuffed, blindfolded, led onto a tarmac within some obscure Air Force base, and shot. -- Thomas C Greene (http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/55/23223.html) -- Kat will like this one! ----- Original Message ----- From: <rforno at tutopia.com> To: "EUforum" <EUforum at topica.com> Sent: Sunday, April 14, 2002 4:55 PM Subject: Connection problem TOTALLY OFF-TOPIC Dear EUphorians: I know this is completely off-topic, but I need some advice from you, especially from Kat. Hello, Are you able to ping the site, or browse to it by IP address? If you don't know what ping is, open a DOS window, and type in ping www.giga.com.ar. If it says unknown host, then the problem isn't with IE, its likely an issue with your ISP's DNS servers. The IP address should return as 200.49.81.144, although that may change because the DNS record is set to refresh every 5 minutes. In IE's address bar try typing in http://200.49.81.144. The http:// part has to be typed in manually when browsing by IP address. Also, when browsing by the name, I want to make sure your putting in www.giga.com.ar, not giga.com.ar (no www). Trying to browse to giga.com.ar will return an error. --- rforno at tutopia.com wrote: > > Dear EUphorians: > I know this is completely off-topic, but I need some > advice from you, > especially from Kat. > I was able to connect to www.giga.com.ar without > problems up to about one > month ago. You could try and find a public proxy on the net and set up IE to use that, as long as it doesn't use port 80 it should bypass whatever your ISP is using. This is why i asked what happened when he trys to http the ip#. If the isp is proxying it, he still won't get it. But if he does get it, he should change one of his DNS lookups to namesecure.com's DNS server at 216.136.133.88 Kat

Thanks to all. I tried ping www.giga.com.ar, no answer. Then I attempted ping 200.49.81.144, OK. Then I connected in IE by http://200.49.81.144, successful. Then, what is happening? I used not one but 3 different ISP previously without success, and wonder where the problem lies, because many people I know, using the same ISPs, have no problem. Thanks again. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kat" <gertie at PELL.NET> To: "EUforum" <EUforum at topica.com> Subject: Re: Connection problem TOTALLY OFF-TOPIC > > On 15 Apr 2002, at 11:57, Thomas Parslow (PatRat) wrote: > > > > > > Dear EUphorians: > > > I know this is completely off-topic, but I need some advice from you, > > > especially from Kat. > > > I was able to connect to www.giga.com.ar without problems up to about one > > > month ago. Please see my previous post, telling I was successful. But then I tried to enter to some pages in that server by clicking the links and, of course, again I was unable. Any solution? Yes, see my previous post about setting your dns lookup to the Namesecure dns server. Your's is not carrying the entire domain name list. If you want (and i wouldn't), leave your primary dns pointed to your isp's server, and set the secondary to Namesecure. If i were you, i'd set your primary to Namesecure (because we know your isp is leaving some out) and then look for another good dns server closer to you. Open IE, "goto" Tools in the menubar, then Internet Options, then Connections, then highlite your connection by clicking on it, then click on Settings, then under Dialup Settings click Properties, Server Types, TCP/IP Settings. Check Specify Name Server Addresses, and enter the Namesecure ip# i gave earlier: 216.136.133.88 If an internic registrar doesn't have the ip, then an "outlaw" free registrar would, but i don't have any dns server ip# for them sorry. I connected to mIRC and typed /dns www.giga.com.ar. I got 200.49.139.144 instead of 200.49.81.144 as pointed out by Euler German in another message. What is the difference caused by? I still can't connect to giga by name. Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kat" <gertie at PELL.NET> To: "EUforum" <EUforum at topica.com> Subject: Re: Connection problem TOTALLY OFF-TOPIC > > On 18 Apr 2002, at 21:37, rforno at tutopia.com wrote: > > > > > I also got to www.namesecure.com (by name). Well, 200.49.139.144 is *not* www.giga.com.ar ¿¿¿??? But try mIRC and you'll see it resolves to this IP#. Well, as you can see, 200.49.139.144 is in error. >Well, 200.49.139.144 is *not* www.giga.com.ar ¿¿¿??? But try mIRC and >you'll see it resolves to this IP#. Not here, it doesn't. Ok, take out the secondary ip# from your dialup settings, leaving the namesecure ip# as primary, this will force it to use the Namesecure site. The primary may be timing out. All i can figure is your isp is altering the dns tables, or it's been cracked and modified. Or you have been bitten by a "man in the middle" R/ARP ploy. If you can try an online http proxy, i would. Problem with those is they don't last long. The www.a4u.at is gone, and anonymiser.com is not free anymore (and they wanna install code on your puter to use them,, not mine, no thanks). Kat Thanks. > ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kat" <gertie at PELL.NET> To: "EUforum" > <EUforum at topica.com> Sent: Friday, April 19, 2002 11:58 AM Subject: Re: > Connection problem TOTALLY OFF-TOPIC > > > > > > On 18 Apr 2002, at 21:37, rforno at tutopia.com wrote: > > > > > > > > I also got to www.namesecure.com (by name). Kat: Before the problem, I had no dialup settings. After you advised to do so, I put namesecure as primary, without a secondary, and I still have it this way. And as I told you, I am using alternatively 2 ISPs. Moreover, some of my friends use the same ISPs without this problem with this particular URL. What I am suspecting is that some problem developed with one or more DLLs in my PC, because yesterday I detected that a DLL was corrupted. I restored it from a .CAB, but there might be others affected. I ran AVG 6.0; it did not detect any virus. Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kat" <gertie at PELL.NET> To: "EUforum" <EUforum at topica.com> Sent: Sunday, April 21, 2002 3:17 PM Subject: Re: Connection problem TOTALLY OFF-TOPIC > > On 21 Apr 2002, at 13:46, rforno at tutopia.com wrote: > > > > > I connected to mIRC and typed /dns www.giga.com.ar.
