i have downloaded Microsoft Personal Web Server 4.0.
i am running Win95. is it wrong version downloaded?
when i run setup.exe it says this error message:
"To run this option of setup program you need WinSock2. Click OK"
what is wrong?
what is this WinSock2, where can i get it? what winsock does?

PROCEED WITH CAUTION !, and seek an experts advice.
Trying to install WinSock2 in Windows95 can be very tricky, and might require
you to update your dialer etc, as well. ( because there are so many versions
of Win95 and it's dialers, browsers, and all their associated 'net' DLLS. )
Try:
http://www.walbeehm.com/win95upd.html
...which has links to Microsoft data as well, BEFORE you proceed blindly.
Otherwise, you might find you can't even get on the 'net' to fix up the
mess....

back in the day when i still used Win95 alot, i upgraded to Winsock2 very
easily. I had absolutely no problem upgrading, you just gotta make sure you get
the Dial-Up Networking Upgrade as well, i thinks its at version 1.3 now, not
sure though.

What does the documentation say?

So don't run that option.

It's like the winsock1.1 that you are prolly running now, but has more hooks and
security options. It alledgedly has fewer bugs. Get it at microsoft.com.

i have now installed it successfuly. the problem was that setup.exe ran
winsock2.exe, which couldnt install itself cause it needed another dcom
version and didnt tell me that but just put results in log file. i found
that file accidentaly. there should be message box saying what was the
error.
another question, where can i get dcom95 patch to run HomeSite?
