Hi Ron, euAllegro "should" port to Linux pretty easily. Allegro runtimes (shared libraries) should be able to be downloaded for most versions of Linux from the Allegro web page. The extra DLL's I wrote just needs to be compiled for Linux as well. The full source is now included in the lastest euAllegro release on my web site. The latest release is also modular in design meaning you can compile "euAllegro" only without the PPCol, Mappy, JGMOD support. This makes it easier to get started. I would have done the Linux port myself, but I as yet haven't been able to install a Linux version and got all my hardware to work. I'm confused over your comment ... "Linux->SDL->Euphoria project". SDL and Allegro are 2 seperate graphics library. Are you just wanting to port both libraries to be used with Euphoria Linux? Are you just wanting > to port both libraries to be used with Euphoria Linux? Actually no. At the moment, I'm really interested in porting only one lib. For various reasons, I've chosen allegro. One reason for choosing that lib is the work you've already done. A second, I like Allegro better than SDL. However, I realize that my opinion isn't the only one. Which is why I ask the question as to whether or not the euphoria community would prefer an Allegro port or a SDL port. You mentioned difficulty getting started with Linux. From my own experience, I can say it's much easier to start with Redhat or Mandrake. Both of those distributions seem to do a good job at providing the most drivers and software to run most PC's. It helps,of course if your using popular hardware. Like sound blaster, and Nvidia for example. Ron_W http://www.techport80.com

Could I expect more or less interest in a Linux->SDL->Euphoria > project? I probably should have added this to my first reponse ... I assume most Euphoria users use Windows ... and since euAllegro currently only works on Windows and hasn't really developed much interest I assume there would be less interest for euAllegro for Linux. My answer ... only do what you want for yourself. If you want to make games for Linux than euAllegro would be a great way to get started. Regards, Ray Smith http://rays-web.com
