... I can foresee a long thread developing here :) so I'll jump in early with my 2 cents ... * Which ever style of program is choosen for a contest, a percenatge of people will not be good in that area, or have little interest to create a program in that area. For example, in the first contest speed was a defining attribute so you could argue that people who created well structured code were at a disadvantage. * The rules of judging need to be clearly defined. For example: Will the best "graphics artist" win a graphical demo contest? Is it based on visual appearance? execution speed? source code? creativity? a combination of all? Will one person/a group of people/ or everyone who wishes be judges? * If exact results are required the task should be OS independant. * If creative results are required than let people choose the OS. * The use of external libraries needs to be defined. (Do you allow or don't you allow there use?) >From another point of view .... Should we discuss the "reason" for having another contest? * To encourage people to use Euphoria? * To improve how people use Euphoria? * To expose people to areas of computing they might not have studied? eg. encyption in contest 1 * To fill an area that is currently lacking in Euphoria? Libraries/tools/applications in a particular area? Personally I wouldn't like a graphics demo ... but might particapte if it's a full game. Anyway ... my those are my thoughts in no particular order. surely that gives anyone who has written a DOS graphics library to much of head start! DOS graphics don't work on many "modern" OS's. My 0.02 cents also... I'd like to see an ascii-based or mode 19 DOS game contest... With an added restriction for no external libraries, and a command-count restriction. Emphasis is on the playability, features, and 'fun' of the game, not speed, graphical wizardry, or number of obscure tweaks beneath the hood. Mind you, I'm biased towards something I have a chance to compete in. ===================================================== .______<-------------------\__ / _____<--------------------__|=== ||_ <-------------------/ \__| Mr Trick >From: Ray Smith <smithr at ix.net.au> >Reply-To: EUforum at topica.com >To: EUforum <EUforum at topica.com> >Subject: RE: Contest Idea >Date: Wed, 6 Nov 2002 05:21:43 +0000 > > >... It's kinda shoddy tho ===================================================== .______<-------------------\__ / _____<--------------------__|=== ||_ <-------------------/ \__| Mr Trick >From: Ray Smith <smithr at ix.net.au> >Subject: RE: Contest Idea > > >surely that gives anyone who has written a DOS graphics library to >much of head start! > >DOS graphics don't work on many "modern" OS's. > >Ray Smith >http://rays-web.com > > >tone.skoda at gmx.net wrote: > > Maybe only DOS could be allowed and no libraries of people other than > > you, > > and only builtin Euphoria functions? > > >
