I have read the recent series of posts/flames with intense discomfort and dismay. The personal attacks have got to stop and got to stop now. First, I apologize to Jok3r for my attacks on him as a "cracker"--for the record, I don't recant anything I wrote, but the fact that I wrote it to the list rather than by private email. Some members of the list may be inclined to dismiss what I have to say because I have myself transgressed--so be it. The fact that I too am wrong doesn't make flame wars right. We as a group are hurting too many feelings and losing too many members. The list seems to be no longer about principles but about personalities--we seem to have opinions about each other's motives, intelligence, integrity, and programming skill. We are killing this wonderful community. For my part, I refuse to continue to harm the Eu community. I have set the following code of civility for myself: 1. This list is about the Euphoria programming language--all else (other languages, belief systems, lifestyles, morals, values, etc.) are outside issues. If I have an opinion on an outside issue, I will keep it to myself or express it by private email. 2. I will debate any Euphoria issue freely and fully according to my convictions. If this causes me to attack a Euphoria idea or program, I will do so but will NOT attack the proponent of the idea or the programmer. Doubtful cases will be resolved in favor of silence. 3. I will not attack or even question anyone else's intelligence, integrity, morality, beliefs, motives, or programming skill--no matter what my private opinion is. 4. If my intelligence, integrity, etc. is attacked I will defend myself but not reply in kind. 5. Should I transgress these guidelines, I will issue an immediate and entire (no self-justification or excuses) public apology to the offended individual and to the list. It is my sincere hope that others will adhere to similar standards of civility. As for the exchange between Everett and Rob--it is tragic, and I can't agree with either of you about it. I will say no more publicly. Rett, sometimes you inspire me and sometimes you piss me off--but you always make me think and I value that--you have my email, please use it.
