Adam, Well, now the contents, index and the page to page pointers work in the target html, but the search does not. The search gets results, but the results generate a "cannot display page" page. It is very nice. I had tried to build the whole manual into one big html file earlier, but never got around to finishing it. Everett L.(Rett) Williams rett at gvtc.com

Congratulations, Adam. Everything works now and it is a great improvement over other items that we have. The search results at the general level are not much use, but that is a failing of the format...not your doing. Everett L.(Rett) Williams rett at gvtc.com

<embarassed mode> Umm,, ok, just (helpful, i hope) suggestion, what if all the text in the right window would line wrap to fit the window? And i mentioned the OS header in the left window, but what if instead you left it like you have it, all the words together under index, and gave the commands a tag next to the word: L(inux) W(indoze) D(os) A(pple) W(hatever)? </embarassed mode> This is really a great thing you did, Adam. I was intermittently working on a one-page html version of that, taking advantage of the auto linewrap, color, fonts, etc in the browser. Now i can focus on other things,, and move my EU refman desktop shortcut from the RDS ref to your's. Kat, *still* up, not up early.

All the commands useable in linux have a L all the commands useable in windoz have a W all the commands useable in dos have a D so print would be: print WDL see? Kat

Adam, I have waited, deliberately, until most of the excitement died down to give my acknowledgement more prominence. No doubt you remember why. The Compiled Reference Manual is a very nice piece of work! Just one wish: a list of standard includes with direct access to them would make it almost perfect. Perhaps as a fourth tab in the 'contents/index/search' panel? jiri

Glad I'm getting such a positive response from everyone. I was actually thinking about what you suggested during the initial design of it, I will probably have it implemented in some fashion very soon. > <SNIP!>Perhaps as a fourth tab in the 'contents/index/search' panel? As a VB (horror!) programmer myself, I thought I would have a go at clarifing a few things about compiled help (chm) files. The format of the panes are not very variable - you are stuck with the contents, index, and find panels, and while you can have none or all of them (or any combination), you can't add custom ones. As for other customisations, other than the content, the tabs mentioned above, and turning the toolbar (and components) on and off, there's not much else customizable about it, so sorry, no extra tabs for include files. Nick

I knew this already, but thank you for explaining it to the rest of the group. Even though custom tabs are impossible, The TOC and index can be added to as much as you want so really there is no need for a custom tab. (Although it would probably make the user's life that much easier). +-------------------+ | Adam Weeden | | adam_weeden@ | | hotmail.com | | AIM : DJMu2000 | +-------------------+ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nick Johnson" <arachnid at MAD.SCIENTIST.COM> To: <EUPHORIA at LISTSERV.MUOHIO.EDU> Sent: Friday, March 17, 2000 2:50 AM Subject: Re: Compiled Reference Manual > > <SNIP!>Perhaps as a fourth tab in the 'contents/index/search' panel? > As a VB (horror!) programmer myself, I thought I would have a go at > clarifing a few things about compiled help (chm) files. > > The format of the panes are not very variable - you are stuck with the > contents, index, and find panels, and while you can have none or all of them > (or any combination), you can't add custom ones. > > As for other customisations, other than the content, the tabs mentioned > above, and turning the toolbar (and components) on and off, there's not much > else customizable about it, so sorry, no extra tabs for include files. > > Nick >
