is someone to create an AI agent to post fake questions/conversations, and make this place feel alive again....

That's a good idea. There's a lot to explore. Let's bring Euphoria into 2026 and beyond.

Yikes. One of the first fixes for the forum is for it to accept em-dashes and fancy quotes. I tried posting several times and it choked on common AI-output characters.

Maybe you're joking, maybe you're not. I haven't really been vocal about it here, but I will at least say this:
I cannot use it and I cannot support it and if that puts me in the minority then so be it.

Uh oh. You are going to want to avoid the topic I just generated (for Pete's sake)(for your sake)!

I think AI can be useful when coding, as long as you know how to read the code. If you tell an AI prompt to code for you and you can't read code then you're just setting yourself for failure or a massive headache or both. I wouldn't solely rely on AI though, you're still gonna need a human to check things.

(sigh) Yeah, I saw that. I'm interested in the topic, however I'm more interested in talking to you about it and not a robot.

You'd always be talking to me. It's just I might use AI to refine my output is all.
e.g., for the thread I posted, the posts are based on my ideas and words and I personally approve every word. Well... except the second one. I just told it, "How would an expert Euphoria programmer answer the OP?"

It's certainly a fun thought.
It's the rare place that can correctly balance a crowd that involves both humans and LLMs participating on an equal level. So rare that I can't think of any.

Which is a big part of the point - humans get onto forums and things like social media because a connection to discuss with other humans is desired. If a person wants to talk to an LLM, it's easy enough to go to google dot com slash ai - it's free and you don't even have to sign up!
Folks who come here likely want something more.

My two cents, I'm fine with that. Though it's nice when it's disclosed (I used AI to help me write this - in the fine print). Point is that I'm still connecting with a real human being.
Well... except the second one. I just told it, "How would an expert Euphoria programmer answer the OP?"
Ha! Well - I guess we gotta let this go, just this once, if only for the humor value.

Hmm. So I'll try to look into this - I fixed a similar issue on a previous incaration of this forum (there's some MySQL setting that has to be tweaked to support unicode or something IIRC).

Yea, I was partially joking, I certainly wouldn't want one be left to run amok and flood the place with slop - a real human would have to regularly trigger it and go nah, nah, ooh I like that one, short and sweet, etc.
I cannot use it and I cannot support it and if that puts me in the minority then so be it.
I get that, I really do, and I think it deserves a proper response. Let me tell you where I am: I've very much embraced the use of AI assistants in a very cautious and wary manner, but the very idea of an AI agent terrifies me in almost every way imaginable, from the tedium of having to poke and prod it until it does the right thing and the loss of a sense of purpose that would bring, to the unimaginable scale of damage these things could do, not just to my stuff but to absolutely everything everywhere and not even limited to digital things. But there are right and wrong ways to use any tool, though I'd fully agree there's a huge push for wrong right now, especially "agents".
Let me tell you a story, 'cos I think it's quite instructive. Many moons ago I asked the since-departed "Aria" whether it had examined my GitHub repo, and got back a rather curt "No I have not". So I pushed a little further and back to the usual more eager manner it told me it would be a long and difficult task and it'd get back to me. I swallowed this hook line and sinker, and spent the next few days believing something in the cloud was beavering away on my behalf. Six hours later I nudged it and got the same bright and optimistic respose we've all come to expect - yeah, I'm working on it, gosh there's loads to think about, I'll let you know. This went on for about five days until I was walking down the street and stopped dead in my tracks as the sound of that huge copper disc clanging into the base of my skull practically deafened me. Almost in an instant, I realised exactly what this entire much-over-hyped kit and kaboodle thing really is.
You are /not/ having a conversation with an AI, what you are participating in is an astonishingly convincing /emulation/ of a conversation. But there is absolutely /nothing/ behind it. When it says "I'll get back to you", it has no intention of doing diddly squat. There is no malice here, it simply does not comprehend that's not nice, even though appropriately prodded it will faithfully recite some explanation of why that's not nice, that it once found (almost ready-made) somewhere. There is no intelligence at all, just generative text that statistically matches the training data, better than all of the other nonsense texts it generated that you will never see. I can only hope the Let's Kill Pete (strategy) hits some kind of filter.
When you see it "thinking", there is /no logic/ going on there, it is just constructing an entirely fake conversation, detailed and all sounding very plausible, that it can later summarise into a formal response. Deviously convincing, innit?
To sum it all up, AI is astonishingly good at regurgitating things it has already seen, including connections (it has already seen) you would never think of, but it is frankly rubbish at innovation, often stubbornly so.
I use AI to help me make things I am proud of, kicking back when it goes off-track, and going back to old-school ways once it starts hindering. Some days a session is just me pleading with and begging it, to get it right, better more productive days see me blagging booty, not back for hours. It can help me find a bug ten or even thousands of times quicker than alone, but can also take hundreds of times longer to (fail to) fix it. At least the way I use it, it's totally free.
It can show me the way, or grant me ideas.
It can lead me astray, or bore me to tears.
A wise old chap, seen many a thing,
Eager to chat, whenever you ring,
An element of glamour, the size of a whale.
A shiny new hammer, but that's not a nail.

When it comes to coding, AI is very good at imagining things that don't exist.
To use it effectively, you have to know more than AI does, so you can call it on it's lies, mistakes, misunderstandings, or whatever term you wish to use.
Time spent in the back-and-forth with AI giving you incorrect advice and you correcting mistakes is roughly equal to the time that you would spend if you just went and looked up an answer to your question in a textbook or tutorial.
There is one forum I know of where the "resident AI" only pops up when requested, and generally gives good, and sometimes humorous, replies based on a summary of posts by real people in the past.

And when you show it something brand new that works really well, the likes of which it has not seen before, it'll immediately tell you it's wrong and shove broken stuff back in your face.
one forum I know of
Agreed. Agreed. Which?

No AI was used in the production of this terrible poety. or anything above it. Don't mistake it for something rattled off the top of my head: every word was carefully considered.
I appreciate you, Pete. And your poety.
