If re-found the link to the orignial JAPI
https://userpages.uni-koblenz.de/~evol/japi/japi.html
A quick test shows that this works with 32bit Mint using Euphoria or Phix.
The startup is slow because effectively you load the Java runtime and then run the gui.

Must we go through this again? Years ago I played around with the JAPI GUI. I suppose it is better than nothing, but compared to EuGTK, it is a complete waste of time.

You are right. The euGTK gui is the flagship for Euphoria. No need to look elsewhere.
Now, what is going to work on my 32bit netbook? I want to use Euphoria and Phix at the same time. Since IUP has dropped 32bit Linux, that leaves tk/tcl and JAPI as possible choices.
I think I will learn to use tk/tcl for myself.
As a last choice It would be interesting to see if JAPI2 can be made to work on Linux.

I don't like the idea of involving Java in anything Euphoria related, let alone requiring Java for our GUI toolkit.
I've updated the Gui_pro_con page with a new table that organizes toolkits by supported platform.

Lightzone, by photo editing software runs on Java. So in may particular case I have Java installed. Therefore it is fair game to use JAPI.
I also want to be able to use Euphoria and Phix.
I also want to be able to use my netbook.
Now, the options become limited to tk/tcl or JAPI.
tk/tcl is the last option available

Therefore it is fair game to use JAPI.
There is no fair regarding Java. To be clear: I will not be a part of anything to do with using Java.
