Hi Everyone, I'd like to announce a new addition to my software collection. euAllegro Games Pack, consisting of Dodgem (as seen before on the RDS Recent Contribitions Page) and the all new all dancing game of Invaders ... ok it doesn't dance and Invaders isn't the newest idea for a game ever ... but it shows off the power of euAllegro quite well. I have posted a copy to RDS and they can also be picked up from my poor excuse of a web page at http://euallegro.fws1.com. You'll need a Pentium 150 or above with DX3 or above. Invaders features Mod music on the intro screen, pixel perfect collision detection and good quality sound effects and graphics. The whole thing comes in at about 600 lines of code. I grouped these games together and called them a pack because they aren't full featured games (although they both are complete) but they are more like "demo" games ... demos for euAllegro the Allegro wrapper I'm playing with. For instance I think Invaders is a bit to simple: * It's pretty hard to die because I let you fire too fast and allow to fire too many bullets at once ... I didn't have heart to reduce it because it was to much fun! * The enemy bullets don't come from the enemy, they randomly fall from the sky. * You only have 1 ship, once your dead ... your dead. * There aren't any barriers just above your ship. I could have improved this game for weeks (its actually structered quiet badly), but my life ambition isn't to write an Invaders clone, so I have released it as a "demo" game. If your: * interested in games programming, or * want a couple of simple games for the kids, or * want 10 minutes of blowing everything in sight away, or * just interested to see how euAllegro is coming along I'd advise you download the pack. I wouldn't suggest anyone download it for any long term *pure* gaming pleasure. I hope I haven't sounded to negative ... It's a fun little game and I had alot of trouble finishing it as the kids and my wife where busy doing beta testing and I had trouble getting close to the keyboard ... and I had a bit of trouble to keep from beta testing myself :). I'd love to hear any comments anyone has. Thanks Ray Smith

Hi Jiri, I downloaded it as a test before I sent the [Announcement] message and it downloaded ok, and I just tried it again and it worked ok, Can you try again in a few minutes ... otherwise I could email it you if you want. I have had so much trouble with free web page providers .... but what can I expect .. I get what I pay for. Any suggestions for better free web page providers? Try: http://free.prohosting.com/ They put banner adds on the pages but it is free and pretty reliable. Also try: http://www.emailaddresses.com/ Click on "Web Hosting" in the right hand pane under "Free Stuff Guide". Some of those might be useful. Andy Cranston. Has anyone tried and been successful at downloading the Game Pack? Anyone else tried and failed like Jiri? Do I need to ditch my free web host for greener (more downloadable) pastures? Thanks, Ray Smith (Reply to me preivaely if you don't want to fill the list up - Thanks) ----- Original Message ----- From: jiri babor <jbabor at PARADISE.NET.NZ> To: <EUPHORIA at LISTSERV.MUOHIO.EDU> Sent: Friday, December 08, 2000 10:34 PM Subject: Re: [Announce] euAllegro Games Pack > Ray, > > Authentication (user name & password) is required to download the pack > from your site. > > jiri

Hello, On my Laptop I recieve this message after my screen goes bazzerk. <Unable to set GFX_SAFE> This is what I get when I try to run either of the examples I have a Trident PCI Video Card w/ 4 meg ram and 14.2 TFT Active Matrix Screen. Pentium II 233 mhz w/MMX 128 Meg Ram 2.8 Gig left on the HD (3.81 total) The question is, should your examples run with this card? I sure would hope so. euman at bellsouth.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Matthew Lewis" <MatthewL at KAPCOUSA.COM> To: <EUPHORIA at LISTSERV.MUOHIO.EDU> Sent: Friday, December 08, 2000 5:44 PM Subject: Re: [Announce] euAllegro Games Pack > > From: Tony Bucholtz > > > > On Fri, 8 Dec 2000 13:21:40 -0500, Ck Lester > > <cklester at YAHOO.COM> wrote: > > > > >On Sat, 9 Dec 2000 02:48:17 +1100, Ray & Debbie Smith > > <smithr at IX.NET.AU> > > >wrote: > > > > > >>Has anyone tried and been successful at downloading the > > >>Game Pack? Hmm, I have no idea why it wouldn't work. What version of DirectX do you have? If your interested I could send you a test program that came with Allegro that lets you set the screen to different modes. Email me if you want it. It would be good to sort out why it doesn't work. Hi Tony and Everyone, Thanks for the all responses about the web page. The result is about half of you who tried to download the Games Pack failed so I'll have to find a better solution. Rob has added it to the Contributions page. I'll have alook around this weekend for an alternative site beecause when I release euAllegro (hopefully this weekend) I'll probably have updates quiet often and don't want to bother Rob every other day. Thanks again to everyone Ray Smith. ----- Original Message ----- From: Tony Bucholtz <tony_bucholtz at HOTMAIL.COM> To: <EUPHORIA at LISTSERV.MUOHIO.EDU> Sent: Saturday, December 09, 2000 7:11 AM Subject: Re: [Announce] euAllegro Games Pack > On Fri, 8 Dec 2000 13:21:40 -0500, Ck Lester <cklester at YAHOO.COM> wrote: > > >On Sat, 9 Dec 2000 02:48:17 +1100, Ray & Debbie Smith <smithr at IX.NET.AU> > >wrote: > > > >>Has anyone tried and been successful at downloading the > >>Game Pack?
