1. EXE's on the list
Hi!
I don't post messages on the list much, mainly just read, but whenever
someone posts any exe files, or any other attachment, i get the machine
language code on my mail server. I sometimes have to scroll for quite a
long ways before i get to the next message (i get digests). So please
restrain from posting them

then why don't you get a better mail server that supports attachments.
why should everbody on this list stop doing something because it is an
inconvience to one person?
try hotmail or mail.com

It is an bothers many more than one person. Bound programs on the
listserver is a definite NO NO. The Public Edition of Euphoria is at least
172K by itself. All bound Euphoria programs have this in them. During
binding the actual Euphoria program is bound to this Public Edition. 172K
takes a long time to download on a 56K modem. When was the last time you
ran on a modem that was 9600 or less?
Sending shrouded code is acceptable, Assuming the shrouded code functions.
Why am I blabbing to someone that apparently hasn't a clue as to the
bandwidth implications of EXE files. You wouldn't send a self extracting
zip. would you?

I don't recall seeing anybody posting EXE files lately... I recently
posted an EXW *text* file as an attachment that came back a bit butchered
when I tried to retrieve it from the HTML interface for the list (extra
line feeds and other characters were added which prevented the code from
running properly) . So I reposted the same file as a zipped archive (which
corrected that problem).
I don't see a problem with that but I guess I can post the code directly in
my reply next time. I'd imagine what John was seeing was uuencoded
versions of the text and zip file.
So are we saying that all attachments considered a no-no?

No, I feel that files that reach a certain size should be considered
a no-no. ZIPPED Euphoria source code will rarely exceed this size barrier.
My personal opinion: Is that most any file that exceeds roughly 64K should
not be posted on the listserv. Let me emphasize my use of the word "most".
This means that there may be causes in which files exceeding 64K would be
acceptable. Even in those cases I wouldn't want ANY files that exceed 128K
posted directly to the listserv. It isn't that much of a burden on my
system
BUT, I still remember the days of my 420Mb HardDrive and running Windows
3.1
with only 4Mb of Memory and a 14.4 modem. I didn't have Internet access
back
then. Heck, I didn't have Juno email either !!! But if I had. I wouldn't
have attachments that I might not use wasting my time online with a 14.4
connection. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm speaking of the good ole days. Let me
wake some of you youngsters up. They may be good ole days for me. But,
they
still exist as current lifestyle for many folks.

to find the good side. Go figure. I guess it is just the Libra in me. :)

Okay.. if you have a 56k modem(like me) and downloading 172k takes a long
time then you probably have a bad ISP or you are too far away from your
ISP.. downloading something that is 172k big takes me about 2 seconds, and
i'm guessing alot other people enjoy this as well.. not be mean or ignorant
or anything...

Hello Ian,
Recently I was checking email and I realized that it was going
slow, I saw the messages and there was a 785kb msg.. Well,
fortunately I have web access too and I could remove it without
having to download it. Other solution was connecting to a telnet
program to type commands manually and delete it. But well, I'm
sure that not all people have web access or know how to delete
it manually, so if they got a big msg. they have to download it
even they don't want to and specially if they have a very slow
connection like mine.
